In the rapidly evolving field of renewable energy, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) has become a transformative strategy for improving solar energy monitoring and control. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) applications in solar energy, illustrating how IoT technologies enable real-time monitoring, system optimization through techniques such as Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), solar tracking, and automated cleaning. Simultaneously, AI boosts these capabilities through energy forecasting, optimization, predictive maintenance, and fault detection, significantly enhancing system performance and reliability. This review highlights key advancements, challenges, and practical applications of AIoT in the solar energy sector, emphasizing its role in advancing energy efficiency and sustainability.

With the rapid deployment of the Internet of Things and cloud computing, it is necessary to enhance authentication protocols to reduce attacks and security vulnerabilities which affect the correct performance of applications. In 2019 a new lightweight IoT-based authentication scheme in cloud computing circumstances was proposed. According to the authors, their protocol is secure and resists very well-known attacks. However, when we evaluated the protocol we found some security vulnerabilities and drawbacks, making the scheme insecure. Therefore, we propose a new version considering login, mutual authentication and key agreement phases to enhance the security. Moreover, we include a sub-phase called evidence of connection attempt which provides proof about the participation of the user and the server. The new scheme achieves the security requirements and resists very well-known attacks, improving previous works. In addition, the performance evaluation demonstrates that the new scheme requires less communication-cost than previous authentication protocols during the registration and login phases.

Industry 5.0 introduces a shift toward human-centric, sustainable, and resilient industrial ecosystems, emphasizing intelligent automation, collaboration, and adaptive operations. Predictive Maintenance (PdM) plays a critical role in this transition, addressing the limitations of traditional maintenance approaches in increasingly complex and data-driven environments. The convergence of Artificial Intelligence and the Industrial Internet of Things, referred to as the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), enables real-time sensing, learning, and decision-making for advanced fault detection, Remaining Useful Life estimation, and prescriptive maintenance actions. This study provides a systematic and structured review of AIoT-enabled PdM aligned with Industry 5.0 objectives. It presents a unified taxonomy integrating AI models, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) infrastructures, and AIoT architectures; reviews AI-driven techniques, sector-specific implementations in manufacturing, transportation, and energy; and analyzes emerging paradigms such as Edge–Cloud collaboration, federated learning, self-supervised learning, and digital twins for autonomous and privacy-preserving maintenance. Furthermore, this paper synthesizes strengths, limitations, and cross-industry challenges, and outlines future research directions centered on explainability, data quality and heterogeneity, resource-constrained intelligence, cybersecurity, and human–AI collaboration. By bridging technological advancements with Industry 5.0 principles, this review contributes a comprehensive foundation for the development of scalable, trustworthy, and next-generation AIoT-based predictive maintenance systems.

Despite of their energy efficiency, most of WSN’s cluster-based routing protocols are vulnerable to security threats. Selective forwarding and black hole attacks are ranked among the most devastating attacks which they target this class of routing protocols. In this paper, a new centralized intrusion detection system is proposed to detect selective forwarding and black hole attacks in cluster-based wireless sensors networks. The main idea is the use of a centralized detection approach, where the base station decides on potential intrusions based on control packets sent from the cluster heads. The proposed intrusion detection technique is simple and energy efficient, it is thus suitable for sensor nodes with resource constrained. The simulation results confirm the expected performance of the proposed IDS in terms of security and energy efficiency.
