Prof. Giuseppe Benagiano is a former Professor and Department Chairman at, “La Sapienza” University of Rome, Rome, Italy. He obtained his Degree (Laurea) of Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rome in 1961, Libero Docente (Ph.D.) in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, University of Rome in 1967. From 1962 to 1973, he worked at the University of Rome, serving as Adjunct Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor. Between 1973 and 1981 he joined the World Health Organisation (WHO), Human Reproduction Programme. Back at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” between 1981 and 1993, he served as Professor and Director of the 1st Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1993 he was named Director of the Special Programme of Research in Human Reproduction at WHO, and from 1996 to 2003 he acted as Associate Professor of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Between 1997 and 2001 he served as Director General of the Italian National Institute of Health, and between 2002 and 2009 as Dean of 1st Post-graduate School of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at “La Sapienza” University. He is Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Arad (Romania) and an honorary member of the Academic Senate of the University of Szeged (Hungary), an honorary member of 15 national Societies of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and has served on many review panels and has reviewed for many journals.
