In recent years, Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has become one of the most important research topics in the domains of health and human-machine interaction. Many Artificial intelligence-based models are developed for activity recognition; however, these algorithms fail to extract spatial and temporal features due to which they show poor performance on real-world long-term HAR. Furthermore, in literature, a limited number of datasets are publicly available for physical activities recognition that contains less number of activities. Considering these limitations, we develop a hybrid model by incorporating Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for activity recognition where CNN is used for spatial features extraction and LSTM network is utilized for learning temporal information. Additionally, a new challenging dataset is generated that is collected from 20 participants using the Kinect V2 sensor and contains 12 different classes of human physical activities. An extensive ablation study is performed over different traditional machine learning and deep learning models to obtain the optimum solution for HAR. The accuracy of 90.89% is achieved via the CNN-LSTM technique, which shows that the proposed model is suitable for HAR applications.

In order for a country’s economy to grow, agricultural development is essential. Plant diseases, however, severely hamper crop growth rate and quality. In the absence of domain experts and with low contrast information, accurate identification of these diseases is very challenging and time-consuming. This leads to an agricultural management system in need of a method for automatically detecting disease at an early stage. As a consequence of dimensionality reduction, CNN-based models use pooling layers, which results in the loss of vital information, including the precise location of the most prominent features. In response to these challenges, we propose a fine-tuned technique, GreenViT, for detecting plant infections and diseases based on Vision Transformers (ViTs). Similar to word embedding, we divide the input image into smaller blocks or patches and feed these to the ViT sequentially. Our approach leverages the strengths of ViTs in order to overcome the problems associated with CNN-based models. Experiments on widely used benchmark datasets were conducted to evaluate the proposed GreenViT performance. Based on the obtained experimental outcomes, the proposed technique outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) CNN models for detecting plant diseases.

Affective computing, as its name implies, focuses on the recognition of human emotions, sentiments, and feelings. This interdisciplinary field encompasses diverse areas such as languages, sociology, psychology, computer science, and physiology. However, there is a notable absence of research exploring the interaction between machine learning (ML) and mixed reality (XR) for affective computing. This paper aims to address this gap by discussing the importance of affective computing and delving into its concepts, methods, and outcomes. Drawing upon ML and XR approaches, we conduct a comprehensive survey of recent methodologies employed in affective computing. Additionally, we examine state-of-the-art approaches and available affective data resources. Furthermore, we explore various applications where affective computing has a significant impact, providing valuable insights for future scholars seeking to deepen their understanding of its relevance and practical implications.

Recently, the task of validating the authenticity of images and the localization of tampered regions has been actively studied. In this paper, we go one step further by providing solid evidence for image manipulation. If a certain image is proved to be the spliced image, we try to retrieve the original authentic images that were used to generate the spliced image. Especially for the image retrieval of spliced images, we propose a hybrid image-retrieval method exploiting Zernike moment and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) features. Due to the symmetry and antisymmetry properties of the Zernike moment, the scaling invariant property of SIFT and their common rotation invariant property, the proposed hybrid image-retrieval method is efficient in matching regions with different manipulation operations. Our simulation shows that the proposed method significantly increases the retrieval accuracy of the spliced images.

A country’s economy heavily depends on agricultural development. However, due to several plant diseases, crop growth rate and quality are highly suffered. Accurate identification of these diseases via a manual procedure is very challenging and time-consuming because of the deficiency of domain experts and low-contrast information. Therefore, the agricultural management system is searching for an automatic early disease detection technique. To this end, an efficient and lightweight Deep Learning (DL)-based framework (E-GreenNet) is proposed to overcome these problems and precisely classify the various diseases. In the end-to-end architecture, a MobileNetV3Small model is utilized as a backbone that generates refined, discriminative, and prominent features. Moreover, the proposed model is trained over the PlantVillage (PV), Data Repository of Leaf Images (DRLI), and a new Plant Composite (PC) dataset individually, and later on test samples, its actual performance is evaluated. After extensive experimental analysis, the proposed model obtained 1.00%, 0.96% and 0.99% accuracies on all three included datasets. Moreover, the proposed method achieves better inference speed when compared with other State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) approaches. In addition, a comparative analysis is conducted where the proposed strategy shows tremendous discriminative scores as compared to the various pre-trained models and other Machine Learning (ML) and DL methods.
