Maria Angela Castriciano (Messina, Italy) is a researcher at the Institute for the Study of
Nanostructured Materials (ISMN), Department of Chemistry and Technology of Materials (DSCTM),
National Research Council (CNR), Italy. She received her PhD in February 2002 from
the Chemistry Department of the University of Messina, Italy. Her research interests span a broad
range of topics at the interfaces of supramolecular, macromolecular, and material chemistry. She is
an expert in (i) the synthesis, functionalization, and characterization of nano- and mesoscopic
structures of organic, inorganic, and hybrid systems for applications in the field of sensors,
optoelectronics, and drug release; (ii) aggregation phenomena in solution and supramolecular
organization of chromophoric systems on polymeric and/or biological matrices and confined
environments (with particular attention to the expression and transmission of chirality on a nano-
and mesoscopic scale); (iii) the design, synthesis, and characterization of organic dyes as photosensitizers or filler for composite polymeric membranes for applications in
polymeric electrolyte fuel cell technology; and (iv) the characterization of chromophoric systems by
static and time-resolved spectroscopic and/or light scattering techniques. She has published more
than 67 articles in SCIE journals and has been cited more than 1500 times. h-index 23
(May 2021).
