After starting my career as a field textile chemist and earning a master’s degree, I have been engaged in research and development of functional textiles. In the past ten years, I have mainly worked in the development of environmentally-friendly flame-retardant, antibacterial agents, conductive finishing agents etc., and their application in textiles; enzymatic modification of textile materials, leading the development of environment-friendly modification technology. In the past six years, I focused on the research of natural polyphenol compounds in textile modification. Recently, I became fascinated by structure color, especially non-iridescent structure color. How do they form? How can they be applied in textiles substrate through bionic polyphenols? How can we increase the stability of structure color? To answer these questions I had to teach myself, and work with expert colleagues in optical physics, materials science, and comparative biology. This curiosity, joy in collaboration, and a newfound interest in potential practical applications of mimics of these materials, continues to drive me to this study into the future.
