Electric vehicles (EVs) are widespread, and their usage is increasing as a result of air pollution and rising fuel costs. EVs are quickly gaining popularity as a green means of transportation. By 2030, most cars will probably be battery-powered EVs. However, the development of EV power transmission is packed with important challenges and is an active topic of research. In EVs, the battery serves to store electrical energy. The DC-DC converter provides a direct current (DC) link between the battery and the inverter. A motor provides the transmission for the vehicle’s motion. Hence, this state-of-the-art provides exhaustive information about battery management systems (BMS), power electronics converters, and motors. Lithium-ion batteries are more efficient for EV applications, and boost converters and full bridge converters are commonly used in EVs. EVs use permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) and induction motors (IM). The renewable energy-based charging station and the fast charging specifications are also clearly addressed for EV applications.

The rise in energy demand in the present scenario can be balanced with the help of solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems. But, the nonlinearity in I-V and P-V characteristics makes it very difficult to extract the maximum power of solar PV. Also, the classical Maximum Power Point Tracking Techniques (MPPT) fail to track the global Maximum Power Point (MPP) from the multiple local MPPs under Partial Shading Conditions (PSCs). In this work, Variable Step Size ANN-based MPPT Techniques are studied and are compared in terms of steady-state behavior, settling time of converter power, power point tracing speed, oscillations of MPP, and operating efficiency. The discussed MPPT techniques are Adaptive Perturb & Observe (AP&O), Adaptive Feed Forward Neural Network Controller (AFFNNC), Artificial Neural Network-based P&O (ANN-based P&O), ANN-based Incremental Conductance (ANN-based IC), ANN-based Hill Climb (ANN-based HC), and Radial Basis Functional Controller based Fuzzy (RBFC based Fuzzy). The boost converter is interfaced in middle of the PV system and load to step-up the PV supply voltage. The performance of selected neural networks MPPT techniques is studied by utilizing a MATLAB/Simulink window.

The multilevel inverters (MLI) are resourceful in producing a voltage waveform with superior-quality staircase counterfeit sinusoidal and depressed harmonic distortion (THD). Several conventional topologies are proposed to realize the MLI however, the limitations of these topologies may involve more DC sources and power-switching devices, and less THD, which in turn, increases the cost and size of the inverter. These drawbacks can be eliminated with the proposed hybrid Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter with reduced components topology. As compared with the established MLI topologies the recommended topology having a reduced number of DC sources, power-switching devices, component count level factor, lesser TSV, more efficient, lesser THD, and cost-effective. The proposed MLI is a blend of a single-phase T-Type inverter and an H-Bridge module made of sub switches. This article incorporates the design and simulation of the multilevel inverter with staircase PWM technique. Further, the 9-level and 17-level MLI is examined with different combinational loads. The proposed inverter is stable during nonlinear loads, and it is well suited for FACTS and renewable energy grid-connected applications. An operational guideline has been explained with correct figures and tables. The Output voltage wave is realized in numerical simulation. Finally, the experimental demonstrations were performed by implementing a hardware prototype setup for both linear and nonlinear loads using the dSPACE controller laboratory.

This research implements and compares a symmetric hybridised cascaded multilevel inverter and an asymmetric multilevel inverter utilizing a switched capacitor unit for 17 level inverters. The symmetric hybridised multilevel inverter topology consists of a modified H - bridge inverter which results in an increase in the output voltage to 5 level from the 3 level by using a bi-directional switch at the midpoint of a dual input DC source. In the proposed asymmetric multilevel inverter DC sources are replaced with switched capacitor unit which in turn boosts the output voltage and produces twice the voltage levels at the loads. The proposed topology with staircase modulation technique has been verified using MATLABSIMULINK and the results are experimentally executed with prototype models, which are interfaced with dSPACE RTI 1104. The results of the proposed topologies are experimentally obtained for steady state and the performance of the same is tested under different resistive and inductive load disturbance conditions. The results substantiate that these multilevel inverter topologies are better stabilized during load disturbance conditions with low THD, a lesser number of switches, increased output voltage levels and these topologies well suit for renewable energy applications.

In this article, a hybrid Artificial Neural Network - Newton Raphson (ANN-NR) is introduced to mitigate the undesired lower-order harmonic content in the cascaded H-Bridge multilevel inverter for solar photovoltaic (PV). Harmonics are extracted by the excellent choice of opting switching angles by exploiting the Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) PWM technique accompanying a unified algorithm in order to optimize and reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). ANN is trained with optimum switching angles, and the estimates generated by the ANN are the initial guess for NR. In this study, the CHB-MLI is combined with a traditional boost converter, it boosts the PV voltage to a superior dc-link voltage Perturb and Observe (P&O) based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm is used for getting a stable output and efficient operation of solar PV. The proposed system is proved over an eleven-level H-bridge inverter, the work is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink environment, and the respective results are confirmed that the proposed technique is efficient, and offers an actual firing angles with a few iterations results in a better capability of confronting local optima values. The suggested algorithm is justified by the experimental development of eleven-level cascaded H-bridge inverter.
