Marilena Papageorgiou (PhD) is an Assistant Professor of spatial planning in the School of Spatial Planning and Development (Eng.) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and Tutor at the Hellenic Open University (MA and MSc, Tourism Administration). She is also a member of the National Council of Spatial Planning of Greece (2022–today). She holds a degree in Spatial Planning and Regional Development (School of Engineering, Volos, Greece), and a DESS (MSc) in Tourism, Culture and Local Development (Univ. of Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse, France). She also holds a PhD in Spatial Planning and Regional Development from the University of Thessaly. She worked as a Spatial Planner (Eng.), participating as a consultant in spatial planning projects (2010–2023). She also worked as a Scientific Advisor for Members of the Hellenic Parliament (2002–2009). Her research interests include spatial planning (marine and terrestrial), environmental planning, tourism planning, and planning for the protection of natural and cultural heritage.
