Prof. Dr. Nicola MICALE

Prof. Nicola Micale is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical, and Environmental Sciences, University of Messina. He got a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Pharmaco-Chemical Department of the University of Messina, and had the post-doctoral scholarship at the same Institurion. He worked for the "Drug Discovery Program" at the Georgetown University (Washington DC) and UIC (Chicago). In 2006, he received the “Farmindustria Prize” for the quality of his researches in the Medicinal Chemistry field. Other work experiences at international level include: “Guest Professor” at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen; "Visiting Scientist" at the National Physical Laboratory (London); "Visiting Scientist" at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, Division of “Molecular Virology and Gene Therapy” (KU, Leuven); "Research Scholar" at the Department of Pharmaceutics (VCU, Richmond). He is co-author of 103 publications and 60 communications at national and international meetings. His current research is mainly focused on biopolymers for the development of drug delivery systems for active and/or passive targeting of bioactive molecules, design and synthesis of heterocyclic/peptidic compounds targeting human and/or pathogenic proteases, and biological activity of metal complexes
