“Physical restraint” formerly used as a measure of protection for psychiatric patients is now widely used. However, existing studies showed that physical restraint not only has inadequate effect of protection but also has negative effects on residents. To analyzes the impact of educational program on the physical restraint use in long‐term care facilities. Design: A systematic review with meta‐analysis and meta‐regression. Eight databases, including Cochrane Library, ProQuest, PubMed, EMBASE, EBSCO, Web of Science, Ovid Medline and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), were searched up to January 2017. Eligible studies were classified by intervention and accessed for quality using the Quality Assessment Tool for quantitative studies. Sixteen research articles were eligible in the final review; 10 randomize control trail studies were included in the analysis. The meta‐analysis revealed that the use of physical restraint was significantly less often in the experimental (education) group (OR = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.39 to 0.78, p < 0.001) compared to the control group. Meta‐regression revealed the period of post education would have decreased the effect of the restraint educational program (β: 0.08, p = 0.002); instead, the longer education period and more times of education would have a stronger effect of reducing the use of physical restraint (β: −0.07, p < 0.001; β: −0.04, p = 0.056). The educational program had an effect on the reduced use of physical restraint. The results of meta‐regression suggest that long‐term care facilities should provide a continuous education program of physical restraint for caregivers.

Vegan diet has been associated with lower risk of cardiovascular diseases and mortality, partly due to its effects on serum lipid profiles. Lipid profiles [high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides (TG)] have not been fully elucidated either in pre and postmenopausal vegans or in ovo-lacto vegetarians. This study aimed to compare lipid profiles among vegans, ovo-lacto vegetarians and omnivores.
It has been reported that oxidative and nitrative stress might be the pathogenesis of endometriosis. This prospective case-control study attempted to check the connection between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of three antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), thioredoxin 2 (TXN2), thioredoxin reductase 1 (TXNRD1)) and endometriosis. We recruited 90 patients with histology-approved endometriosis as the case group and 130 age-matched women for an annual pap smear examination as the control group. The stage of endometriosis was evaluated with revised ASRM score. Both groups were genotyped in the peripheral leukocytes for the SNP of GPX4 (rs713041), TXN2 (rs4821494) and TXNRD1 (rs1128446) by PCR-based methods. An X2 test was used to analysis of the difference of allele frequency and SNP distribution between two groups. The results revealed GPX4 (rs713041) has a significantly different distribution between two groups (C:T = 116 (44.6%):144 (55.4%) in control and C:T = 104 (57.8%): 76 (42.2%) in endometriosis groups, p = 0.007). The SNP in TXN2 (rs4821494) also showed a difference in allele frequency (G:T = 180 (69.2%):80 (30.8%) in control and G:T = 141 (78.3%):39 (21.6%) in endometriosis group, p = 0.030). In addition, the SNP GPX4 (rs713041) was associated with the severity of the endometriosis. Women who have advanced stage endometriosis were different from mild endometriosis in genetic variants of GPX4 gene (p = 0.001). In conclusion, the relationship between endometriosis and SNP of antioxidant enzymes, GPX4 and TXN2, was confirmed by the present study. According to the result, we suggested that the GPX4 might contribute to the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
Aims: Heart failure (HF) influences health‐related quality of life. However, the factors that contribute to health‐related quality of life remain unclear in Taiwan. We aim to identify the factors influencing health‐related quality of life in HF patients. Methods: Hospitalized HF (N = 225) patients were included from April 2011 to April 2014. Health‐related quality of life was assessed by using the 36‐Item Short‐Form Health Survey (SF‐36) and the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire. A new cut‐off was conducted based on the combination of SF‐36 and Minnesota Living with Heart Failure questionnaire. Results: There were significant differences between good and poor quality groups on age, gender, education levels, occupational classification caregiver, New York Heart Association classes, and the numbers of comorbidities. The logistic regression analysis showed that the number of comorbidities was more than three and New York Heart Association class IV were significantly associated with health‐related quality of life.
