The COVID-19 pandemic is a public health emergency concern and a challenge to students’ mental health due to changes in education and social isolation. The aim of this research was to expand knowledge about the relations that shape the level of anxiety amongst men and women who are studying during the pandemic in terms of the relations towards their sense of social support and their nutritional behaviors. A State–Trait Anxiety Inventory was used to measure anxiety level, alongside supplementary questions such as the feeling of support from close ones, concentration of attention on nutrition during the pandemic and externally derived factors (university, specialization). Analysis of the regression was applied to the examination of the dependency between the anxiety level (in both forms of its occurrence—as state-anxiety and as trait-anxiety). We observed that the pandemic situation affected a level of state-anxiety above average (mean value of 46–48 points) even when students felt social support. Nutrition habits and chosen education type are associated with trait-anxiety level, which was also elevated (mean values of 49–50 points). Chosen factors had a partial influence on the anxiety level of students, therefore their mental health should concern shaping positive nutrition habits and social support.

Background: The aim of this paper is to expand the knowledge on the subject matter of the relations between behavior that is geared towards health and the feeling of effectiveness in the context of martial arts tourism in the form of Taekwon-do training summer camps. Method: The research encompassed 58 people (32 men and 26 women) who train Taekwon-do (ITF) (aged: 26.36 ± 8.97; scope: 18–45 years of age). The measurement of the feeling of effectiveness and healthy behavior was conducted by means of standardized tools, including the General Self-Efficacy Scale. Results: The analyzed fighters who participated in the research in the majority of the sports meetings declared a higher level of the feeling of effectiveness (p < 0.001). Through cluster analysis emerged two groups, with a significant difference between self-efficacy (mean value of 20.05 points in contrast to 33.93 points in the second group). The group with higher psychological indices values attended a higher amount of summer camps during their practice history (at least two camps attended in the second cluster). Conclusion: Sports tourism connected with martial arts, as exemplified by training groups (professionally organized training camps) of Taekwon-do (ITF), is connected with the increased feeling of personal effectiveness, while also serving the enhancement of psycho-physical health, well-being, and the development of social skills.

Anxiety could be felt even in objectively peaceful situations, but a vision of conflict could result in increased stress levels. In this article, we aimed to identify hidden patterns of mental conditions and create male profiles to illustrate the different subgroups as well as determinants of anxiety levels among them in accordance with proximity to a possibility of direct exposure to military action. A sample of Ukrainian males, in duty as conscripts to military service (n = 392, M±SD = 22.1±5.3) participated in a survey. We used the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. In addition to psychological indices, social-demographic data were collected. To discover the number of clusters, the k-means algorithm was used, the optimal number of clusters was found by the elbow algorithm. For validation of the model and its use for further prediction, the random forest machine-learning algorithm, was used. By performing k-means cluster analyses, 3 subgroups were identified. High values of psychological indices dominated in Subgroup 2, while lowest values dominated in Subgroup 3. Subgroup 1 showed a more even distribution among the indices. The strength of the relevance and main determinants of the prediction of the presented model mostly consisted of mental qualities, while socio-demographic data were slightly significant. There is no clear relevance between proximity or even the experience of military actions and anxiety levels. Other factors, mostly subjective feelings about mental conditions, are crucial determinants of feeling anxiety.

Introduction: The complexity of physiological, emotional and behavioural reactions is connected with experiencing pain. A few components appear here: sensory, affective, motivational and cognitive. Relatively strongly fixed beliefs, concerning the possibilities of coping with this feeling, make an important cognitive effect in coping with pain. Knowledge about beliefs about controlling pain influence understanding of pain mechanisms. Material and methods: The research covered 48 hospitalised participants of territorial defence (33.94±9.54 years old; range: 21-56 years old), provided treatment in hospitals in Luck and in the region (Ukraine) with the use of standardised questionnaires within psychology of health and documents’ analysis. The patients differed with respect to diagnosis concerning the presence of neuropathic pain: confirmed neuropathic pain and not fully confirmed neuropathic pain, and the lack of pain of a neuropathic character. Results: In the case of pain of a probable, but not fully confirmed neuropathic pain, the value of conviction relying on one's own internal abilities to coping with pain amounted to 20.73 ± 2.35. The values of the indicators of the two remaining types of convictions analysed in the research are lower. The obtained results indicate that neuropathic pain differentiated beliefs referring to the possibility of coping with pain on one’s own (p

Purpose: Physical exercise has been shown to exert various effects on visuomotor processing and motor learning. The present study aimed to examine the impact of exercise with progressively increased physical load on consecutive stages of perceptual-motor learning. We compared the effectiveness of visuomotor adaptability in four subsequent trials during a complex coordination task performed in different conditions, including under conditions of progressively increased physical load, and in non-exercise resting control conditions. Material: Twenty-seven physical education university students participated in this study. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two group: (1) an exercise experimental group (n = 14), or (2) a non-exercise resting control group (n = 13). Methods: Participants in the experimental group performed three 10-minute effort-tests with increasing intensity on a cycloergometer. Each participant was assigned individual workload values below the lactate threshold (40% VO2max), at the lactate threshold (60% VO2max), and above the lactate threshold (80% VO2max). Four sessions of the two-hand coordination test included in the Vienna Test System were used to examine visuomotor adaptability variation. The total time duration, total error duration, and coordination difficulty were analyzed. Results: There was a significant interaction between number of test repetitions and group (experimental, control) for total duration ( F (3,75) = 3.54, p = 0.018). In particular, there was a significant reduction ( p = 0.006) in duration in the control group after fourth test repetitions as compared to the baseline. In the experimental group, in contrast, there was a tendency for duration to increase after exercise above the lactate threshold intensity. There was also a significant interaction between test repetitions and group for total error duration ( F (3,75) = 3.14, p = 0.03). Conclusions: The results suggest that high intensity exercise can disrupt visuomotor processing during complex skill acquisition. These findings highlight the interplay between exercise intensity and motor control and learning, which in turn, has practical implications for developing and improving motor training and physical education programs.

Introduction. The problem of research and increasing of motor activity modes remains relevant, since motor activity is one of the main factors determining health and the level of physical condition of population. The aim of study was to analyze the impact of the mutual learning program of physical education for improvement the physical and mental fitness of students in Ukraine. Material and Methods. Four groups were used for the survey: 2 experimental groups (male, n=31; female, n=33), which received 64 lessons of physical education, which included intra-subgroup interaction, changing of students, and control of knowledge and skills of each other, and 2 control groups (male, n=32; female, n=31), which received a traditional physical education lessons. Assessment of the somatic health (Ketle index, Robinson index, lifetime index, strength index) and physical preparadness (running tests, trunk from the lying position, throw of a medball). Efficiency of processing, speed of figuring out the work and mental stability were determined using Schultz-Platonov tables. Results . The results suggest about an increase in the functional capacity of cardiovascular and respiratory system among male and female of experimental group. The growth of the physical fitness results was set in lifting the trunk from the lying position to the sitting and throw of medball. After the experiment, positive changes in cognitive parameters were observed in female and male of experimental group. Among control group students, the results were significantly stable. Conclusions . The results suggest that program increased the level of physical and mental fitness of students of both gender and had a significant impact on the indicators of cardiovascular system.

Summary Study aim: The aim of the current study is to reveal the characteristics of punch techniques applied in taekwon-do. Material and methods: The skill quantification was performed on 10 taekwon-do ITF competitors. During the test, they were asked to perform straight punches using both the preferred and the non-preferred fist into the air (i.e. without a physical target) in the lateral position employing both traditional and sport style. Applying reflective markers on fists, the punching kinematic data were collected in the HML (Human Motion Lab). For data analyses, the average and standard deviation of duration, velocity and acceleration were used. The Mann-Whitney U test was applied to determine possible differences (p < 0.05) between the dominant fist and non-dominant fist as well as between the traditional and sport punch. Results: The results revealed that the sport punch is notably faster (shorter punch duration) with a higher acceleration than the traditional one. There is no significant difference between the preferred and non-preferred fist. The results could suggest that the left and right straight punches during taekwon-do training sessions are equally developed. However, the different goals of the punch techniques, i.e. the traditional punch for generating power and the sport punch for quickness, cause significant differences (p < 0.01) in action time. Conclusion: The results imply that a trade-off strategy may play a role in a match, namely a powerful punch for a possible final win or a quick punch for point collection.

Background and Study Aim : Biomechanical analysis of martial art techniques are objective and quantitative method, which may be useful in training practice for the purpose of improving these techniques as well as monitoring and enhancing athletes performance. The aim of this study was to assess selected kinetic parameters and lower limb loading during karate front kick, using force platforms, for both kicking and support leg. Material and Methods : Karate athlete, second dan, black belt holder in Idokan style, participated in this case study. The subject performed front kick in the air (without a physical target), both for his right and left leg, while standing on the force platforms. For the purpose of kinetic data recording two force platforms were used in this study (Kistler force plate, type 9286AA, Kistler, Switzerland). Selected kinetic parameters for kicking and support leg as well as front kick execution time were analysed. Results : Results of our case study revealed higher values of the kinetic parameters for the right leg, comparing to the left leg. This results confirm athlete’s declaration of being right leg dominant. Conclusions : Analysis of selected kinetic parameters may be useful in identifying lower leg laterization (leg dominance), as well as existing asymmetries between the dominant and non-dominant leg in karate and other martial art athletes.

The objective of the study is evaluation of usefulness of measuring angles of lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis in adults suffering from the low back pain (LBP). The aim of this paper is to show the usefulness of measuring the angles of anteroposterior curvatures of the spine with the Saunders electronic inclinometer, using a direct method of measurement, in the LBP patients treated in a rehabilitation outpatient clinic. The sample group included 87 people suffering from LBP, treated in the outpatient rehabilitation clinic. The angle of lumbar lordosis (LL) and the angle of thoratic kyphosis (TK) were measured with the use of the Saunders inclinometer. The differences between the compared groups were assessed on the basis of the Pearson χ2 significance test. The LL angular values were mostly included within the 20°–40° in both, men and women, and they were found in 72%–78% of the examined patients. Lower LL was found to occur more often in men, but the difference was not statistically significant. Statistically significant functional shortenings of lower limbs above 1 cm were more often found in men (62.5%). (1) An alteration of the spine shape in the sagittal plane can be regarded as one of the potential factors of the LBP risk. (2) Measurements of the LL and TK angular values seem to be a legitimate element of the orthopedic examination of the patients suffering from LBP. (3) Reduction of lumbar lordosis can be an LBP risk factor, particularly in men.
