The field of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) has seen in recent years a dynamic development trend and can now be considered an integral part of intelligent manufacturing systems and a basis for digital manufacturing. Developing the factory of the future in an increasingly competitive industrial environment involves the study and analysis of some FMS key elements and managerial, technical, and innovative efforts. Using a new approach, thus paper presents a material flow design methodology for flexible manufacturing systems in order to establish the optimal architecture of the analyzed system. The research offers a solution for modeling and optimizing material flows in advanced manufacturing systems. By using a dedicated analysis and simulation software, the structure of the system can be established and specific technical and economic parameters can be determined for each processing and transport capacity. Different processing scenarios will be evaluated through virtual modeling and simulations in order to increase the performance and efficiency of the system. Thus, an interactive tool useful in the design and management of flexible manufacturing lines will be developed for companies operating in the industrial sector. The application of this paper is mainly in the field of development of intelligent manufacturing systems, where the control system will make and use simulations in order to analyze current parameters and to predict the future.
Destination management organizations have a key role to play in the governance of tourism destinations, in managing destination networks and in ensuring good cooperation between stakeholders. Although, destination management organizations (DMOs) are atypical organizations, their operations are evaluated according to their organizational efficiency and effectiveness. This study aims to propose a framework to improve the management of the tourist destination through an innovative approach that interconnects strategic management and Lean techniques to increase efficiency and productivity in operational processes, organizational efficiency and effectiveness at the DMO level. The framework developed in this study interconnects the analysis of the internal environment through the Value Chain and the Lean Six Sigma methods identified to be suitable for application in the management of the tourist destination. Testing of the practical application of this framework was done for Association for the Promotion and Development of Tourism (APDT), which is the DMO that ensures the management of the tourist destination of Brasov, Romania. The research contributes to the optimization of the processes at the DMO’s level. The framework developed in this study can be implemented by practitioners to improve the management of the tourist destination. The paper also offers future research directions.
The integration of efficient production and management systems with the new Industry 4.0 concept represents a challenge for any company wishing to adapt its processes in order to increase performance, both at the operational and the organizational levels, through digitization and connectivity. This research proposes an analysis of Lean tools and Industry 4.0 technologies for compatibility in order to provide a framework model for development and integration in industrial applications. Through a systematic review of the literature, this paper contributes to the development of the current vision regarding the implementation and integration of the two “paradigms” of production. An analysis of the current key production strategies was performed through a new conceptual approach from the perspective of correlating the Lean management system, a system that has been stable in recent decades, with the innovative technologies of Industry 4.0. The applicative character of the research consisted of the optimization by simulation of a flexible production system in which the two concepts were integrated. The results showed that the implementation of Lean in the field of flexible manufacturing, correlated with the integration of Industry 4.0 techniques, such as digital twin and simulation, led to improved production processes by fast and flexible reconfiguration, with the two concepts being interdependent.
A topical issue globally is the development and implementation of renewable energy sources for sustainable development. To meet current requirements, the research in this paper is directed towards finding solutions to increase the performance and efficiency of wind power plants by implementing innovative solutions for hollow roller bearings developed through the use of sustainable growth programs in the field of green energy. Another solution that has the effect of increasing wind power performance consists of the implementation of a new large-size lubrication system for large-size bearings in wind energy units, which will increase their durability by developing maintenance capabilities. In this research, we will explore the possibility of introducing an innovative automated lubrication system in hollow roller bearings. The main results of the research, the innovative constructive solutions, will lead to important savings by lowering wind farm maintenance costs, increasing the durability of large bearings, and increasing the energy efficiency and yield of the whole system. The expected impact of implementing the solutions found will mainly be in the field of sustainable growth and environmental development.
The appearance of cracks in brittle materials in general and in marble, in particular, is a problem in the hydro-abrasive jet cutting process. In this paper is presented a method to reduce the appearance of cracks when cutting with a hydro-abrasive jet of marble by using statistical analysis. The Taguchi method was used, establishing the main parameters that influence the process. Research design was based on performing experiments by modifying the parameters that influence the process. In this way, it has been shown that the stochastic effects resulting from the marble structure can be reduced. A careful study was made of the behavior of marble under the action of the hydro-abrasive jet, and of the behavior of the whole process in the processing of brittle materials. Results of experiments confirmed the hypothesis that statistical analysis is a procedure that can lead to a decrease in the number of cracks in processing. The measurement was performed with precise instruments and analyzed with recognized software and according to the results obtained, the reduction of the number of cracks is achieved through use of low pressure, a minimum stand-off distance and a small tube diameter. In this way, the paper presents a new and effective tool for optimizing the cutting with a hydro-abrasive jet of marble.

The flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is as complex whole, raises concerns regarding the configuration and dimensioning, as well as on the conditions for implementation. The scientific researches in this paper, are directed towards the study and analysis of flexible manufacturing systems, in order to know their behaviour and performances as well, and if possible, even before their physical realization, and to establish the scientific basis for sizing, configuration and simulation patterns of flexile manufacturing systems. The ARENA simulation software can describe the complex interactions between resources and processes that take place within a FMS, a system of discrete events. In the simulation phase, evaluation of performance criteria allows the introduction of planning strategies in the use of system resources. After developing these models the verification and validation of the models, confirms their validity. The researches will be also extended in the domain of flexible manufacturing systems management and control in real and virtual environment.
