Biography

Prof. Dr. Monica Bulló is a Full Professor at the IISPV-URV. She obtained her Ph.D. in Nutrition and Health at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. She was the co-leader of the Human Nutrition Research group at URV for many years, and she is currently leading a new research group on Nutrition and Metabolic Disorders (NuMeD). Throughout her career, she has acquired extensive experience in epidemiological studies and clinical trials related to nutrition, metabolism, and health, aimed at better understanding the biochemical (metabolomics and inflammation) and molecular (microbiota and epigenetics) mechanisms underlying human metabolic diseases (insulin resistant T2D, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health). Identifying biomarkers of development and the progression of diseases, together with a better knowledge of the related metabolic pathways, is a useful and promising tool for the design of preventive and therapeutic strategies to fight against diseases. Translating research into practical applications is one of the main objectives of her research group. For this reason, she has recently joined TecnATox and become a member of the TECNIO Network of ACCIÓ. She is also a member of the Cluster FoodService, which intends to promote and strengthen the competitiveness of the foodservice segment, and is a member of the Expert Panel of XIA (Food Innovation Network).
