Kinematic accuracy reliability is an important performance index in the evaluation of mechanism quality. By using a 3-DOF 3-PUU parallel robot manipulator as the research object, the position and orientation error model was derived by mapping the relation between the input and output of the mechanism. Three error sensitivity indexes that evaluate the kinematic accuracy of the parallel robot manipulator were obtained by adapting the singular value decomposition of the error translation matrix. Considering the influence of controllable and uncontrollable factors on the kinematic accuracy, the mathematical model of reliability based on random probability was employed. The measurement and calculation method for the evaluation of the mechanism's kinematic reliability level was also provided. By analysing the mechanism's errors and reliability, the law of surface error sensitivity for the location and structure parameters was obtained. The kinematic reliability of the parallel robot manipulator was statistically computed on the basis of the Monte Carlo simulation method. The reliability analysis of kinematic accuracy provides a theoretical basis for design optimization and error compensation.

This paper presents a novel redundantly actuated 2RPU-2SPR parallel manipulator that can be employed to form a five-axis hybrid kinematic machine tool for large heterogeneous complex structural component machining in aerospace field. On the contrary to series manipulators, the parallel manipulator has the potential merits of high stiffness, high speed, excellent dynamic performance, and complicated surface processing capability. First, by resorting to the screw theory, the degree of freedom of the proposed parallel manipulator is briefly addressed with general configuration and verified by Grübler-Kutzbach (G-K) criteria as well. Next, the inverse kinematics solution for such manipulator is deduced in detail; however, the forward kinematics is mathematically intractable. To deal with such problem, the forward kinematics is solved by means of three back propagation (BP) neural network optimization strategies. The remarkable simulation results of the parallel manipulator demonstrate that the BP neural network with position compensation is an appropriate method for solving the forward kinematics because of its various advantages, such as high efficiency and high convergence ratios. Simultaneously, workspaces, including joint space and workspace of the proposed parallel manipulator, are graphically depicted based on the previous research, which illustrate that the proposed manipulator is a good candidate for engineering practical application.
Dexterous hands are an important end-effector of robots, but their relatively low carrying capacity, small workspace and poor task adaptability are the key factors that restrict their wide application. To overcome these shortcomings of dexterous hands, a novel Lie-group-based synthesis method that extends the 3-[P][S] parallel mechanisms (PMs) to dexterous hands is presented, and a class of three-finger dexterous hands with parallel finger structure is obtained. The multimode operation is proposed by designing a double-slider palm that provides the hands with a large workspace and high task adaptability. The operation types are presented, and the dexterous in-hand manipulations in all modes are analyzed by means of Lie group theory. In addition, the equivalent structural characteristics of pinching objects are classified to elucidate the motion types and the rotational properties of the pinched objects. The inverse kinematics of fingers is presented and is used to identify the input–output relationships. Finally, the workspaces of the fingers are determined according to the result of the inverse kinematics, and the relationships between the size and displacements of the pinched object are presented. The proposed dexterous hands overcome the problems of low carrying capability, small workspace, and weak in-hand manipulation ability that are encountered with the traditional dexterous hands, which are underactuated and are built with a series finger structure, and can be potentially applied to various application domains, such as services, industry, and rescue.

In this article, the trajectory tracking control is developed by implementing a non-singular terminal sliding mode control for the redundantly actuated parallel mechanism system. The proposed control scheme could guarantee that the tracking errors converge to zero asymptotically. The problem of singularity with regard to conventional terminal sliding mode control scheme can be eliminated with the presented novel non-singular terminal sliding mode surface as well. The corresponding stability of the proposed control scheme has also been proved theoretically in terms of Lyapunov method. In addition, simulations and experiments are conducted for trajectory tracking to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The illustrative results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is available to solve the uncertainties and external disturbances with self-tuning in real time. Furthermore, the prominent characteristics of the presented control scheme are quick convergence, high accuracy, and high robustness, which can achieve excellent tracking performance as compared with computed torque control scheme and conventional sliding mode control scheme.
