Stelios M. Potirakis holds a B.Sc. degree in Physics with First Class Honors (1993), an M.Sc. degree in Electronics and Communications (1995), and a Ph.D. in Physics (2002), all from the University of Athens. He has been a faculty member of the University of West Attica (former Dept. of Electronics Engineering of the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences) since 2009. Since March 2018, he has been serving as a professor at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica and Director of the Electronics and Computer Technologies Lab (ECTLab). His current research interests include DSP, complex systems time-series analysis (audio, geophysical, physiological, financial, material fracture experiments AE/EME etc.), electroacoustics, applied acoustics, electronic measurements, special measurement instrument development (e.g., high energy physics, earthquake precursors acquisition with emphasis on ELF/VLF magnetic fields and MF/VHF electric fields), the characterization of smart/multi-function materials, and wireless sensor networks (including acoustic ones, WASN). He is the PI of the ELSEM-Net (hELlenic Seismo-ElectroMagnetics Network) of telemetric stations spanning all over Greece for the monitoring of fracture-induced electromagnetic emissions (VLF magnetic field and VHF electric field).
