Simon Pierce earned his bachelor’s degree (Hons.) in Plant Biology from the University of Wales in 1995, and his Ph.D. from the University of Durham in 1999. Simon Pierce is currently an associate professor of plant biology, specializing in ecophysiology, evolutionary strategies, invasion ecology, seed biology, and applied conservation. Previously, he was a research fellow at the University of Cambridge (UK) and Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI, Republic of Panama) from 1999 to 2001, at the University of Sheffield (UK) and Sustainable Agriculture Group, Natural Resources Institute (NRI, UK) from 2001 to 2003, and at the University of Insubria (Italy) from 2003 to 2011. His research interests include organism functioning and survival strategies, eco-evolutionary dynamics, functional traits, community ecology, rare plant reproductive ecology and conservation.
