Prof. Armanda D. Bastos obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Genetics at the University of Pretoria. She completed her PhD studies in microbiology at the same university. After completing her studies, She worked at the University of Pretoria as a Senior Lecturer (2002–2006), an Associate Professor (2007–2012), the Deputy Director and Acting Director (2016–2017), Head of the Department of Zoology and Entomology, and currently, a Professor of Veterinary Tropical Diseases. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of infectious diseases of wildlife and incorporates molecular approaches to determine the origin, persistence and spread of diseases of animal and public health concern.
