Recently, precision agriculture has gained substantial attention due to the ever-growing world population demands for food and water. Consequently, farmers will need water and arable land to meet this demand. Due to the limited availability of both resources, farmers need a solution that changes the way they operate. Precision irrigation is the solution to deliver bigger, better, and more profitable yields with fewer resources. Several machine learning-based irrigation models have been proposed to use water more efficiently. Due to the limited learning ability of these models, they are not well suited to unpredictable climates. In this context, this paper proposes a deep learning neural network-based Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled intelligent irrigation system for precision agriculture (DLiSA). This is a feedback integrated system that keeps its functionality better in the weather of any region for any period of time. DLiSA utilizes a long short-term memory network (LSTM) to predict the volumetric soil moisture content for one day ahead, irrigation period, and spatial distribution of water required to feed the arable land. It is evident from the simulation results that DLiSA uses water more wisely than state-of-the-art models in the experimental farming area.

Next generation wireless systems have witnessed significant R&D attention from academia and industries to enable wide range of applications for connected environment around us. The technical design of next generation wireless systems in terms of relay and transmit power control is very critical due to the ever-reducing size of these sensor enabled systems. The growing demand of computation capability in these systems for smart decision making further diversified the significance of relay and transmit power control. Towards harnessing the benefits of Quantum Reinforcement Leaning (QRL) in the design of next generation wireless systems, this paper presents a framework for joint optimal Relay and transmit Power Selection (QRL-RPS). In QRL-RPS, each sensor node learns using its present and past local state’s knowledge to take optimal decision in relay and transmit power selection. Firstly, RPS problem is modelled as a Markov Decision Process (MDP), and then QRL optimization aspect of the MDP problem is formulated focusing on joint optimization of energy consumption and throughput as network utility. Secondly, a QRL-RPS algorithm is developed based on Grover’s iteration to solve the MDP problem. The comparative performance evaluation attests the benefit of the proposed framework as compared to the state-of-the-art techniques.
Energy is a precious resource in the sensors-enabled Internet of Things (IoT). Unequal load on sensors deplete their energy quickly, which may interrupt the operations in the network. Further, a single artificial intelligence technique is not enough to solve the problem of load balancing and minimize energy consumption, because of the integration of ubiquitous smart-sensors-enabled IoT. In this paper, we present an adaptive neuro fuzzy clustering algorithm (ANFCA) to balance the load evenly among sensors. We synthesized fuzzy logic and a neural network to counterbalance the selection of the optimal number of cluster heads and even distribution of load among the sensors. We developed fuzzy rules, sets, and membership functions of an adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system to decide whether a sensor can play the role of a cluster head based on the parameters of residual energy, node distance to the base station, and node density. The proposed ANFCA outperformed the state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of node death rate percentage, number of remaining functioning nodes, average energy consumption, and standard deviation of residual energy.
Clustering is a promising technique for optimizing energy consumption in sensor-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Uneven distribution of cluster heads (CHs) across the network, repeatedly choosing the same IoT nodes as CHs and identifying cluster heads in the communication range of other CHs are the major problems leading to higher energy consumption in IoT networks. In this paper, using fuzzy logic, bio-inspired chicken swarm optimization (CSO) and a genetic algorithm, an optimal cluster formation is presented as a Hybrid Intelligent Optimization Algorithm (HIOA) to minimize overall energy consumption in an IoT network. In HIOA, the key idea for formation of IoT nodes as clusters depends on finding chromosomes having a minimum value fitness function with relevant network parameters. The fitness function includes minimization of inter- and intra-cluster distance to reduce the interface and minimum energy consumption over communication per round. The hierarchical order classification of CSO utilizes the crossover and mutation operation of the genetic approach to increase the population diversity that ultimately solves the uneven distribution of CHs and turnout to be balanced network load. The proposed HIOA algorithm is simulated over MATLAB2019A and its performance over CSO parameters is analyzed, and it is found that the best fitness value of the proposed algorithm HIOA is obtained though setting up the parameters, number of rooster, number of hen’s and swarm updating frequency . Further, comparative results proved that HIOA is more effective than traditional bio-inspired algorithms in terms of node death percentage, average residual energy and network lifetime by 12%, 19% and 23%.

Edge computing has received significant attention from academia and industries and has emerged as a promising solution for enhancing the information processing capability at the edge for next generation 6G networks. The technical design of 6G edge networks in terms of offloading the computationally extensive task is very critical because of the overgrowth in data volume primarily due to the explosion of smart IoT devices, and the ever-reducing size of these energy-constrained devices in IoT systems. Toward harnessing the benefits of deep recurrent neural network based on Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) in the design of next-generation edge networks, this paper presents a framework DECENT-Deep learning Enabled green Computation for Edge centric Next generation 6G neTworks. The data offloading problem is modeled as a Markov decision process considering joint optimization of energy consumption, computation latency, and offloading rate for network utility in 6G environment. The algorithm learns faster from previous long-term offloading experiences and solves the optimization problem with better convergence speed. Simulation results of the proposed framework DECENT shows that it maximizes the network utility by overcoming the challenges as compared to the state-of-the-art techniques.
