Reactive metals (RMs) are a new class of material that can withstand mechanical loads and chemically react to release large amounts of heat under strong impact loading. They are gradually becoming widely used in defense and military fields, including for high-efficiency warheads and reactive armor. For the numerical simulation method considering the combined mechanical-thermo-chemical process for the impact energy release behavior of the RMs, the Al/Ni-based RMs were investigated in this work by combining experiments, theoretical calculations and a numerical simulation. Three kinds of Al/Ni-based RMs (Al-Ni, Al-Ni-CuO and Al-Ni-MoO3), were prepared using the hot-pressing forming process. Firstly, the compressive behavior and the parameters of the Johnson-Cook constitutive model were obtained using a mechanical testing machine and split Hopkinson pressure bars (SHPB). Secondly, the parameters of the equation of state (EOS) under the medium and low pressure conditions of the Al/Ni-based RMs, which were was seen as porous mixtures with high theoretical material density percentages (TMD%), were calculated based on the cold-energy superposition theory and the Wu-Jing method. Third, the impact energy release behaviors of the three RMs were studied with direct ballistic tests. The shock temperatures at different impact velocities were calculated based on the existing shock-induced chemical reaction thermo-chemical model while considering the chemical reaction efficiency, the relationship between the shock temperature and the extent of the chemical reaction was established, and the parameters of the relevant chemical kinetic equations were fitted. Finally, the user’s subroutines defining the material model were implemented to update the stresses in the solids elements in LS-DYNA. The model was based on the Johnson-Cook constitutive model with consideration of the mechanical-thermo-chemical coupling effect, which was verified by the experimental results. The results show that the constitutive model developed in this work can describe the impact energy release behavior of the Al/Ni-based RMs.

In order to obtain magnetic MoS 2 and investigate the influence of magnetic moment on the microwave absorption properties of MoS 2 , transition metal element Ni-doped MoS 2 (0–30 at%) was obtained by a hydrothermal synthesis. The results revealed that the low doping concentration (<10 at%) did not significantly change the crystal structure of MoS 2 , and the Ni element formed a Ni x Mo 1− x S 2 compound within the MoS 2 bulk phase. While the high doping concentration (10–30 at%) led to the formation of impurities. The hydrothermal products which were formed by the accumulation of pleated nanosheets looked like spherical flowers. As the doping concentration further increased, the spherical particles became more compact. The magnetization of MoS 2 could be increased by proper amount of Ni doping. When doping with 3 at% Ni (Ni-3), the M s value increased from 0.53 emu g −1 for non-doped MoS 2 to 0.93 emu g −1 . When the doping ratio was further increased, the M s value of the material decreased. The zigzag edges and variations in the number of vacancies in the materials may be the root of changes in magnetic properties. The overall performance of Ni-3 was also the best in the examined doping range. Compared with non-doped MoS 2 , the matching thickness decreased from 3.50 to 2.05 mm, while the minimum reflection loss value decreased from −55.18 to −58.08 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth (<−10 dB) increased from 3.05 to 5.19 GHz. The excellent absorption performance of the doped materials can be attributed to the change of complex dielectric constant and complex permeability of MoS 2 and resulting in the improvement of loss capability. This study may introduce new opportunities for fully exploiting these nanocrystals for microwave absorption, even for diluted magnetic semiconductors.

To determine the effects of Ti and mixing entropy (ΔSmix) on the structure and mechanical proper-ties of Zr-Ta alloys and then find a new potential energetic structural material with good me-chanical properties and more reactive elements, TixZr2.5−xTa (x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) alloys were investigated. The XRD experimental results showed that the phase transformation of TixZr2.5−xTa nonequal-ratio ternary alloys depended not on the value of ΔSmix, but on the amount of Ti atoms. With the addition of Ti, the content of the HCP phase decreased gradually. SEM analyses revealed that dendrite morphology and component segregation increasingly developed and then weakened gradually. When x increases to 2.0, TixZr2.5−xTa with the best mechanical properties can be ob-tained. The yield strength, compressive strength and fracture strain of Ti2.0Zr0.5Ta reached 883 MPa, 1568 MPa and 34.58%, respectively. The dependence of the phase transformation and me-chanical properties confirms that improving the properties of Zr-Ta alloys by doping Ti is feasible.
