Stefano Menichetti got his degree in Chemistry at the University of Florence in 1987 where he started his academic career after a post-doctoral period in Sheffield working with Professor C. J. M. Stirling. In 1999 he moved to the University of Messina as an Associated Professor, and since 2005, he is a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry ‘Ugo Schiff’ University of Florence. His research activity is focused on setting-up new stereocontrolled, catalytic and eco-friendly original synthetic methodologies, and their applications to the preparation of relevant compounds in medicinal chemistry and material science. Sulfur- and selenium-mediated stereoselective synthesis; hetero Diels-Alder reactions; original syntheses of helicenes and hetero-helicenes; and the preparation of molecular, macromolecular and nano-supported antioxidants are the topics under investigation in his research group.
