Nowadays, with the increasing shortage of traditional medical resources, the existing portable monitoring healthcare device is no longer satisfactory. Thus, wearable healthcare device with diagnostic capability is becoming much more desirable. However, the design of wearable healthcare device faces the challenge of limited hardware resource and high diagnostic accuracy. In this paper, an efficient hardware architecture is proposed to implement a 1-D CNN with global average pooling (GAP) specially for embedded electrocardiogram (ECG) classification. The GAP is implemented by substituting division into shifting operation without extra computing resource consumption and it can largely reduce the parameters of the network. The fully pipelined processing unit (PU) array is designed to increase computing efficiency. A sign bit based dynamic activation strategy is developed for removing redundant multiplications and resource consumption of ReLU. The proposed efficient hardware architecture is implemented on Xilinx Zynq ZC706 board and achieves an average performance of 25.7 GOP/s under 200-MHz with resource consumption of 1538 LUT, which makes resource efficiency improved by more than 3× compared with non-optimized case. The averaged classification accuracy of five ECG beats classes is 99.10%. In brief, the proposed efficient hardware design is prospective for wearable healthcare device especially in ECG classification area.

Convolution neural network (CNN) with pruning techniques has shown remarkable prospects in electrocardiogram (ECG) classification. However, efficiently deploying the existing pruned neural network to wearable devices for ECG classification is a great challenge due to the limited hardware resource and randomly distributed sparse weights. To address this issue, an efficient unstructured sparse CNN accelerator is proposed in this paper. A tile-first dataflow with compressed data storage format is presented to skip zero weight multiplications and increase the computing efficiency during inference of small-scale model with large sparsity. The two-level weight index matching structure in the dataflow exploits shifting operation to select valid data pairs and maintain the fully-pipelined calculation process. A configurable processing element (PE) array with 32-bit instruction control is proposed to increase the flexibility of the accelerator. Verified in FPGA and post-synthesis simulations in SMIC 40nm process, the proposed sparse CNN accelerator consumes $3.93~\mu $ J/classification at 2MHz clock frequency and it achieves an averaged ECG classification accuracy of 98.99%. A computing efficiency of 118.75% is realized which is improved by 48% compared to the dense baseline. In brief, the proposed efficient CNN accelerator is especially suitable for wearable ECG classification device.
New design and optimization of charge pump rectifiers using diode-connected MOS transistors is presented in this paper. An analysis of the output voltage and Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE) is given to guide and evaluate the new design. A novel diode-connected MOS transistor for UHF rectifiers is presented and optimized, and a high efficiency N-stage charge pump rectifier based on this new diode-connected MOS transistor is designed and fabricated in a SMIC 0.18-μm 2P3M CMOS embedded EEPROM process. The new diode achieves 315 mV turn-on voltage and 415 nA reverse saturation leakage current. Compared with the traditional rectifier, the one based on the proposed diode-connected MOS has higher PCE, higher output voltage and smaller ripple coefficient. When the RF input is a 900-MHz sinusoid signal with the power ranging from −15 dBm to −4 dBm, PCEs of the charge pump rectifier with only 3-stage are more than 30%, and the maximum output voltage is 5.5 V, and its ripple coefficients are less than 1%. Therefore, the rectifier is especially suitableto passive UHF RFID tag IC and implantable devices.

Lattice-based cryptography has shown great potential due to its resistance against quantum attacks. With the security requirements for high-precision Gaussian sampling and complex polynomial multiplication over rings, as well as storage of large public-keys, it is extremely challengeable but important to implement lattice-based schemes on resources constrained devices. In this paper, a resource-efficient and side-channel secure Ring-LWE cryptographic processor is presented. A discrete Gaussian sampler with constant response time, high precision, and large distribution tails is designed. The proposed Gaussian sampler is proven to be secure against side-channel timing attack according to the timing analysis attack results on a FPGA-based testing platform. A universal module MPE (Modular Processing Element) is designed to carry out all basic modular operations for Ring-LWE cryptography with high speed. The prototype verification is performed on the Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA platform. The processor can execute an encryption/decryption operation on a 256-bit message in 4.5/0.9 ms whilst it consumes only 1307 LUTs, 889 FFs, 4 BRAMs, and none DSP module. Compared with other related hardware implementations, the Ring-LWE processor is advantageous not only in hardware efficiency but also in secure protection against side-channel attacks.

Crystals-Dilithium is a post-quantum cryptography digital signature scheme with quantum attack resistance. In this brief, a high speed processor towards Dilithium is represented. An architecture based on multiple instruction parallel execution is proposed to reduce operation cycles. The pseudo random number extension generator is designed with byte absorption precision to adapt to practical application scenarios. In addition, a three-stage pipelined modular multiplier is optimized based on Karatsuba algorithm, increasing the maximum operating frequency of the system. On the Zynq UltraScale+ FPGA, our processor is implemented consuming 32035 LUTs and 9707 FFs at 300MHz. Compared with the related works, it has the highest operating frequency and the shortest execution time.
