Baojun Zhao received his BSc (1986) and MSc (1989) from (1999) from The University of Queensland in metallurgy. After receiving his PhD, he continued with the School of Chemical Engineering in several research capacities. Now, he is the Group Leader of the JKMRC. He was a Codelco-Fangyuan Research Fellow with the School of Chemical Engineering at The University of Queensland until June 2020. His primary area of research is the experimental investigation of physiochemical properties of high-temperature melts, i.e., phase equilibria and viscosity of ceramics and metallurgical slags. He has developed several novel research techniques to accurately determine phase equilibria and viscosity of complex ceramics and metallurgical slag systems. In 2009, he was awarded the Billiton Gold Medal from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, UK and also the Non-Ferrous Pyrometallurgy Best Paper Award from the Metallurgical Society of CIM, Canada. His current research interests are fundamental investigations of phase equilibria and viscosity for complex oxide melts through high-temperature reactions, quenching and electron probe X-ray microanalysis.
