The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a non-invasive, inexpensive, and effective tool for myocardial infarction (MI) diagnosis. Conventional detection algorithms require solid domain expertise and rely heavily on handcrafted features. Although previous works have studied deep learning methods for extracting features, these methods still neglect the relationships between different leads and the temporal characteristics of ECG signals. To handle the issues, a novel multi-lead attention (MLA) mechanism integrated with convolutional neural network (CNN) and bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU) framework (MLA-CNN-BiGRU) is therefore proposed to detect and locate MI via 12-lead ECG records. Specifically, the MLA mechanism automatically measures and assigns the weights to different leads according to their contribution. The two-dimensional CNN module exploits the interrelated characteristics between leads and extracts discriminative spatial features. Moreover, the BiGRU module extracts essential temporal features inside each lead. The spatial and temporal features from these two modules are fused together as global features for classification. In experiments, MI location and detection were performed under both intra-patient scheme and inter-patient scheme to test the robustness of the proposed framework. Experimental results indicate that our intelligent framework achieved satisfactory performance and demonstrated vital clinical significance.

Myocardial infarction is one of the most threatening cardiovascular diseases for human beings. With the rapid development of wearable devices and portable electrocardiogram (ECG) medical devices, it is possible and conceivable to detect and monitor myocardial infarction ECG signals in time. This paper proposed a multi-channel automatic classification algorithm combining a 16-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) and long-short term memory network (LSTM) for I-lead myocardial infarction ECG. The algorithm preprocessed the raw data to first extract the heartbeat segments; then it was trained in the multi-channel CNN and LSTM to automatically learn the acquired features and complete the myocardial infarction ECG classification. We utilized the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) database for algorithm verification, and obtained an accuracy rate of 95.4%, a sensitivity of 98.2%, a specificity of 86.5%, and an F1 score of 96.8%, indicating that the model can achieve good classification performance without complex handcrafted features.

In recent years, electronic nose (e-nose) systems have become a focus method for diagnosing pulmonary diseases such as lung cancer. However, principles and patterns of sensor responses in traditional e-nose systems are relatively homogeneous. Less study has been focused on type-different sensor arrays. In this paper, we designed a miniature e-nose system using 14 gas sensors of four types and its subsequent analysis of 52 breath samples. To investigate the performance of this system in identifying and distinguishing lung cancer from other respiratory diseases and healthy controls, five feature extraction algorithms and two classifiers were adopted. Lastly, the influence of type-different sensors on the identification ability of e-nose systems was analyzed. Results indicate that when using the LDA fuzzy 5-NN classification method, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of discriminating lung cancer patients from healthy controls with e-nose systems are 91.58%, 91.72% and 91.59%, respectively. Our findings also suggest that type-different sensors could significantly increase the diagnostic accuracy of e-nose systems. These results showed e-nose system proposed in this study was potentially practicable in lung cancer screening with a favorable performance. In addition, it is important for type-different sensors to be considered when developing e-nose systems.

The heart sound signal is one of the signals that reflect the health of the heart. Research on the heart sound signal contributes to the early diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. As a commonly used deep learning network, convolutional neural network (CNN) has been widely used in images. In this paper, the method of analyzing heart sound through using CNN has been studied. Firstly, the original data set was preprocessed, and then the heart sounds were segmented on U-net, based on the deep CNN. Finally, the classification of heart sounds was completed through CNN. The data from 2016 PhysioNet/CinC Challenge was utilized for algorithm validation, and the following results were obtained. When the heart sound segmented, the overall accuracy rate was 0.991, the accuracy of the first heart sound was 0.991, the accuracy of the systolic period was 0.996, the accuracy of the second heart sound was 0.996, and the accuracy of the diastolic period was 0.997, and the average accuracy rate was 0.995; While in classification, the accuracy was 0.964, the sensitivity was 0.781, and the specificity was 0.873. These results show that deep learning based on CNN shows good performance in the segmentation and classification of the heart sound signal.
