Rita Carmona Graduated in Biological Sciences and obtained a PhD from the University of Malaga in 2002. Her doctoral thesis was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize and her results demonstrated the capacity of mesothelial cells to undergo an epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, crucial during embryonic development, since they generate a population of mesenchymal cells with migratory and differentiation capacity. She is a collaborating researcher in the research teams of 18 national and international research projects. She has 43 publications in high-impact scientific journals (h-index: 26).She currently continues researching while teaching at the University of Malaga, in the Department of Human Anatomy and Embryology, and is a member of scientific societies such as the Spanish Society of Developmental Biology or the European Society of Cardiology.
