Faming Zhang, PhD, is a professor of medicine at Nanjing Medical University, China. His team focuses on therapeutic innovations in the microbiome and gastrointestinal interventional therapy. His innovations involve treatments for interventional intestinal diseases, such as washed microbiota transplantation (WMT), colonic transendoscopic enteral tubing (TET) for microbial therapy, Akkermansia muciniphila, quick endoscopic mid-gut TET, cap-assisted endoscopic sclerotherapy (CAES), and the new anus positioning methods under endoscopy. Zhang’s group reported the step-up microbiota transplantation strategy for refractory dysbiosis-related diseases, such as steroid-dependent or -resistant inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal infections, and graft versus host disease. His publications are highly cited in Chinese and English. His team supports the China Microbiota Transplantation System in providing national WMT services for refractory intestinal infections and long-term safety evaluations of microbiota transplantation.
