High precision positioning of UWB (ultra-wideband) in NLOS (non-line-of-sight) environment is one of the hot issues in the direction of indoor positioning. In this paper, a method of using a complementary Kalman filter (CKF) to fuse and filter UWB and IMU (inertial measurement unit) data and track the errors of variables such as position, speed, and direction is presented. Based on the uncertainty of magnetometer and acceleration, the noise covariance matrix of magnetometer and accelerometer is calculated dynamically, and then the weight of magnetometer data is set adaptively to correct the directional error of gyroscope. Based on the uncertainty of UWB distance observations, the covariance matrix of UWB measurement noise is calculated dynamically, and then the weight of UWB data observations is set adaptively to correct the position error. The position, velocity and direction errors are corrected by the fusion of UWB and IMU. The experimental results show that the algorithm can reduce the gyroscope deviation with magnetic noise and motion noise, so that the orientation estimates can be improved, as well as the positioning accuracy can be increased with UWB ranging noise.

This paper propose a scheme for indoor pedestrian location, based on UWB (Ultra Wideband)/PDR (Pedestrian Dead Reckoning) and Floor Map data. Firstly, a robust algorithm that uses Tukey weight factor and a pathological parameter for UWB positioning is proposed. The ill-conditioned position problem is solved for a scene where UWB anchors are placed on the same elevation of a narrow corridor. Secondly, a heading angle-computed strategy of PDR is put forward. According to the UWB positioning results, the location of pedestrians is mapped to the Floor Map, and 16 possible azimuth directions with 22.5° interval in this position are designed virtually. Compared to the heading angle of PDR, the center direction of the nearest interval is adopted as the heading. However, if the difference between the head angles of PDR and the nearest map direction is less than five degrees, the heading angle of PDR is regarded as the moving heading. Thirdly, an EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm is suggested for UWB/PDR/Floor Map fusion. By utilizing the positioning results of UWB, PDR, and the possible heading angle of Floor Map, high precision positioning results are acquired. Finally, two experimental scenarios are designed in a narrow corridor and computer room at a university. The accuracy of pedestrian positioning when all the data are available is verified in the first scenario; the positioning accuracy of a situation where part of UWB is unlock is verified in the second scenario. The results show that the proposed scheme can reliably achieve decimeter-level positioning.

This paper proposes a method for determining a pedestrian’s indoor location based on an UWB (ultra-wideband) and vison fusion algorithm. Firstly, an UWB localization algorithm based on EKF (extended Kalman filter) is proposed, which can achieve indoor positioning accuracy of 0.3 m. Secondly, a method to solve scale ambiguity and repositioning of the monocular ORB-SLAM (oriented fast and rotated brief-simultaneous localization and mapping) algorithm based on EKF is proposed, which can calculate the ambiguity in real time and can quickly reposition when the vision track fails. Lastly, two experiments were carried out, one in a corridor with sparse texture and the other with the light brightness changing frequently. The results show that the proposed scheme can reliably achieve positioning accuracy on the order of 0.2 m; with the combination of algorithms, the scale ambiguity of monocular ORB-Slam can be solved, with the failed vision trace repositioned by UWB, and the positioning accuracy of UWB can be improved, making it suitable for pedestrian location in indoor environments with sparse texture and frequent light brightness changes.

At present, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning technology is widely used for outdoor positioning services because of its high-precision positioning characteristics. However, in indoor environments, effective position information cannot be provided, because of the signals being obscured. In order to improve the accuracy and continuity of indoor positioning systems, in this paper, we propose a PDR/UWB (Pedestrian Dead Reckoning and Ultra Wide Band) integrated navigation algorithm based on an adaptively robust EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) to address the problem of error accumulation in the PDR algorithm and gross errors in the location results of the UWB in non-line-of-sight scenarios. First, the basic principles of UWB and PDR location algorithms are given. Then, we propose a loose combination of the PDR and UWB algorithms by using the adaptively robust EKF. By using the robust factor to adjust the weight of the observation value to resist the influence of the gross error, and by adjusting the variance of the system adaptively according to the positioning scene, the algorithm can improve the robustness and heading factor of the PDR algorithm, which is constrained by indoor maps. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by the measured data. The experimental results showed that the algorithm can not only reduce the accumulation of PDR errors, but can also resist the influence of gross location errors under non-line-of-sight UWB scenarios.

In this paper, a new emergency positioning technique is proposed based on ad hoc GNSS/UWB (Global Navigation Satellite System/Ultra-Wideband) network. The main innovations of the program are reflected in two aspects. First of all, a unified coordinate frame for indoor and outdoor environments is constructed dynamically with GNSS/UWB integration. In the outdoor environments, the high accuracy positioning can be achieved with GNSS/UWB equipment. The high-accuracy indoor coordinate is obtained by measuring the range observations between adjacent network nodes and outdoor GNSS/UWB nodes, and the range information of the UWB network is transmitted to the cloud server center. A network adjustment algorithm is proposed to improve the positioning accuracy of the UWB network. Secondly, a UWB indoor location algorithm based on robust EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) is proposed. By analyzing the transfer characteristics of gross error in EKF model, a new robust EKF model is established. The model is constructed based on the statistical characteristics of redundant observation components and prediction residual. The robust equivalent gain matrix is constructed, and the robust positioning solution of UWB is obtained with iteration. The global test is carried out first to further improve the real-time operation efficiency. Finally, a field indoor and outdoor seamless positioning experiment was carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the positioning accuracy of UWB emergency network nodes (anchors) can reach 0.35 m. Based on the network, the positioning accuracy of the tag can reach 0.38 m by applying the improved robust EKF positioning algorithm, which is improved by 20.83% and 73.43% compared with standard EKF and least square method, respectively.

The new generations of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) space vehicles can transmit three or more frequency signals. Multi-frequency observations bring a significant improvement to precise point positioning ambiguity resolution (PPP AR). However, the multi-frequency satellite code and phase biases need to be properly handled before conducting PPP AR. The traditional satellite bias correction methods, for example, the commonly used differential code biases (DCB), are limited to the dual-frequency ionosphere-free (IF) case and become more and more difficult to extend to multi-GNSS and multi-frequency cases. In this contribution, we propose the observable-specific signal bias (OSB) correction method for un-differenced and uncombined (UDUC) PPP AR. The OSB correction method, which includes observable-specific satellite code and phase bias correction, can directly apply kinds of OSBs to GNSS original observation data, thus, it is more appropriate for multi-GNSS and multi-frequency cases. In order to verify the performance of multi-frequency UDUC-PPP AR based on the OSB correction method, triple-frequency GPS observation data provided by 142 Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX) stations were used to estimate observable-specific satellite phase biases at the PPP service end and some of them were also used to conduct AR at the PPP user end. The experiment results showed: the averaged time-to-first-fix (TTFF) of triple-frequency GPS kinematic UDUC-PPP AR with observable-specific satellite code bias (SCB) corrections could reach about 22 min with about 29% improvement, compared with that without observable-specific SCB corrections; TTFF of triple-frequency static UDUC-PPP AR with observable-specific phase-specific time-variant inter-frequency clock bias (IFCB) corrections took about 15.6 min with about 64.3% improvement, compared with that without observable-specific IFCB corrections.
