The primary area of expertise is heterogeneous catalysis, with broad experience in the design and development of advanced catalytic materials. Extensive work on layered double hydroxides led to the creation of highly efficient catalysts for industrially relevant organic reactions. These systems showed outstanding laboratory performance and were advanced through all stages of development, from evaluation and synthesis scale-up to successful industrial testing.
Subsequent research focused on an innovative catalytic process for ethylene production via the ODH of ethane. This effort produced highly active and selective catalyst formulations, together with a simple and economically viable method for commercial-scale manufacturing.
Over a ten-year period, responsibilities included serving as Catalysts, Materials, and Chemical Products Development Manager at the Mexican Petroleum Institute.
These contributions have resulted in 40 granted patents, 3 trademark registrations, 13 copyrights, 2 book chapters, and 90 scientific articles, with more than 5,500 citations.
Major distinctions include the National Research Award 2007, the Heberto Castillo Martínez Award, and the Sustainable Energy Award 2017. Membership in the National System of Researchers at Level 3, its highest rank, has also been achieved.
Currently, a full-time Visiting Professorship is held at the Autonomous Metropolitan University–Azcapotzalco Unit, where both teaching and active research are conducted.
