Anxiety, although as common and arguably as debilitating as depression, has garnered less attention, and is often undetected and undertreated in the general population. Similarly, anxiety among medical students warrants greater attention due to its significant implications. We aimed to study the global prevalence of anxiety among medical students and the associated factors predisposing medical students to anxiety. In February 2019, we carried out a systematic search for cross-sectional studies that examined the prevalence of anxiety among medical students. We computed the aggregate prevalence and pooled odds ratio (OR) using the random-effects model and used meta-regression analyses to explore the sources of heterogeneity. We pooled and analyzed data from sixty-nine studies comprising 40,348 medical students. The global prevalence rate of anxiety among medical students was 33.8% (95% Confidence Interval: 29.2–38.7%). Anxiety was most prevalent among medical students from the Middle East and Asia. Subgroup analyses by gender and year of study found no statistically significant differences in the prevalence of anxiety. About one in three medical students globally have anxiety—a prevalence rate which is substantially higher than the general population. Administrators and leaders of medical schools should take the lead in destigmatizing mental illnesses and promoting help-seeking behaviors when students are stressed and anxious. Further research is needed to identify risk factors of anxiety unique to medical students.

The purpose of our study was to carry out a meta-analysis of current literature to determine whether total mastectomy and breast-conserving surgery induce different outcomes in quality of life, based on the breast-cancer-specific module of the European Organizaation for Research and Treatment of Cancer core questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-BR23) used postoperatively. A systematic literature search of PubMed and EMBASE was conducted. Observational clinical studies that compared the quality of life in different surgery groups and presented empirical findings were selected. Six studies met the inclusion criteria. Breast-conserving surgery has statistically significant better outcomes than mastectomy in three of the eight outcomes measured in the EORTC QLQ-BR23, namely body image (standard mean difference, SMD = 1.742, 95% CI 0.579–2.905, p = 0.003), future perspective (SMD = 0.606, 95% CI 0.075–1.138, p = 0.025) and systemic therapy side effects (SMD = −0.641, 95% CI 0.101–1.181, p = 0.020). Our study highlighted that breast-conserving surgery was preferred over mastectomy because breast-conserving surgery leads to better outcomes in body image, future perspectives and less systemic side effects.

Purpose: The study intended to explore the effect of resilience on the mental health of special education teachers and the moderating effect of teaching barriers. Methods: A sample of 681 special education teachers were recruited to complete the questionnaires of the Chinese Adult Resilience Scale, the Symptom Checklist (SCL-90) and the Teaching Barrier to Special Education Teacher Questionnaire. Results: The study found that 1) there was a significant correlation between resilience and mental health symptoms of the special education teachers, and resilience and its different factors had significant negative predictive effects on mental health symptoms and its different factors; and 2) teaching barriers played a negative moderating role on the effect of resilience on mental health symptoms. Conclusion: The results of the study demonstrated the significance of constructing the theoretical framework of promoting special education teachers’ mental health, and it could enlighten researchers and educators to improve the mental health level of special education teachers by enhancing resilience and removing teaching barriers.

Suicidal ideation is a noteworthy health problem that requires further study in the field of interpersonal relationships. The main scope of relationships include family, teachers, peers, and the Internet. However, few studies have considered the effects of interpersonal interactions. Based on the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide, this study explores the relation between different interpersonal relationships and suicidal ideation. A network analysis approach was used to test the relationships. Cross-sectional data (N = 1694; 52.1 % boys; Mage = 11.86 years, SD = 1.59) were collected from primary and secondary students in October-November 2022. Participants completed a survey including demographic part and questionnaires: Positive and Negative Suicide Ideation Inventory (PANSI), Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ), Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES II), Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA), Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (STRS) and Facebook Intensity Scale (FIS). All variables showed a significant correlation in this inferred network. Family, teacher-student, and peer relationships are protective against suicidal ideation. The closeness of the teacher-student relationship showed the highest strength centrality. However, online interpersonal relationship is a risk factor for suicide. Thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness are proximal factors of suicidal ideation that influenced all interpersonal relationships. The network analysis as a data-driven and exploratory method may be limited to provide exact cause and effect relationship. This study shows that teacher-student connections may be more important than other relationships of young people. Improper peer and online interpersonal relationship could be risky for suicide. Further studies are needed to examine the role of these relationships elaborately.

Li, Z.Z. and Zhang, M., 2020. The effects of regulatory focus on anticipated emotions under the different anticipatory results: Take coastal universities in China as an example. In: Guido Aldana, P.A. and Kantamaneni, K. (eds.), Advances in Water Resources, Coastal Management, and Marine Science Technology. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 104, pp. 956–959. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.We explored the effects of regulatory focus on anticipated emotions under the different anticipatory results. We used an experiment to conduct the study with 32 college students in coastal China.. The results indicated that anticipated emotions differed according to the current motivational strategy which are related to an anticipatory result; focusing on promotion rather than prevention led to stronger anticipated positive emotions and less anticipated negative emotions in response to regardless of success or fail anticipatory results; and also anticipatory results have significant effects on anticipated emotions, anticipate successful results rather than anticipatory fail results led to more intense anticipated positive emotions and less anticipated negative emotions. Implications of these results are also discussed in this study
