Martin Luther University Halle/Wittenberg in 1990 and obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute of Physiological Chemistry of the Martin Luther University Halle/Wittenberg in 1995. During 2000–2013, he served as the co-founder and shareholder of Surface and Interface Technologies (SIT) Rosenhof GmbH until the takeover by Analytik Jena AG. He also served as the President of the Controlled Release
Society in Germany during 2004–2005. He was awarded the 2001 PHOENIX Pharmacy
Science Prize.
