Big Data analysis is the process that can help organizations to make better business decisions. Organizations use data warehouses and business intelligence systems, i.e. enterprise information systems (EISs), to support and improve their decision-making processes. Since the ultimate goal of using EISs and Big Data analytics is the same, a logical task is to enable these systems to work together. In this paper we propose a framework of cooperation of these systems, based on the schema on read modeling approach and data virtualization. The goal of data virtualization process is to hide technical details related to data storage from applications and to display heterogeneous data sources as one integrated data source. We have tested the proposed model in a case study in the transportation domain. The study has shown that the proposed integration model responds flexibly and efficiently to the requirements related to adding new data sources, new data models and new data storage technologies.

Rail transport has unmistakable sustainable (environmental and economic) advantages in goods transportation on a massive scale. Goods loading constitutes an important segment of goods transportation by rail. Incorrect loading can be a serious threat to traffic safety as well as a generator of unforeseen expenses related to goods, railway infrastructure and vehicles. At the beginning, the paper identifies the presence of incorrect loading into freight railcars. The analysis of the available loading software has led to the conclusion that no software offers adequate support to the planning and monitoring of the loading of goods into a covered railcar using a forklift truck. For this reason, the main aim of the research is to formulate a mathematical model that includes real-world constraints, as well as the design and implementation of an original user-friendly load planning and monitoring software system. Experimental evaluations of the implemented software have been made based on single and multiple railcar pallet loading problems, considering the following three optimization criteria: maximization of wagon load weight, maximization of wagon volume utilization and maximization of weighted profit. By testing the optimization and visualization features of the software and analyzing the results, it has been concluded that it can offer full support to real load planning and monitoring problems.

In this paper, research is done in the influence of different terrain and traffic conditions on road sections on the driver?s driving performances, i.e. on the car energy efficiency and CO2 emission. A methodology aimed at determining to which extent unfavorable traffic and/or terrain conditions on a road section contribute to the driver?s worse driving performances, and also to determine when the driver?s aggressive driving style is responsible for greater fuel consumption and greater CO2 emission is proposed. In order to apply the proposed methodology, a research study was carried out in a cargo transportation company and 12 drives who drove the same vehicle on five different road sections were selected. As many as 284014 of the instances of the data about the defined parameters of the road section and the driver?s driving style were collected, based on which and with the help of machine learning a prediction of the scores for the road section and the scores for the driver?s driving style was performed. The obtained results have shown that the proposed methodology is a useful tool for managers enabling them to simply and quickly determine potential room for increasing the energy efficiency of the vehicle fleet and decreasing CO2 emission.

– This paper presents a forecast of a number of call arrivals in the call center per hour using supervised machine learning. For the forecast, the WEKA machine learning software tool was used. The results of the forecast are verified using several methods, which shows very good results. Finally, the results of the forecast are presented graphically using Excel diagrams. Keywords – Machine learning, Forecasting, WEKA

In this paper, we consider the problem of minimising the cost of data transmission as a function of the capacity of telecommunication links. To solve this problem, we first formulated a mathematical model, and then we designed and developed a software that enables the optimisation of the given or randomly generated telecommunications network. Declarative programming is a good choice for optimisation problems because it is enough to specify only the relations that must be satisfied, without giving any effective procedure for finding the values for the decision variables. To test the application, we developed a software that randomly generates a telecommunications network that meets the given requirements. This enables us to test the application on an arbitrary number of different telecommunication networks with different numbers of nodes and links, and analyse the impact of changing network parameters on the flow and results of the optimisation. As telecommunications networks operate in conditions of uncertainty, the subject of special analysis was the potential failure of some of the network links. The paper presents and thoroughly analyses the optimisation results for several selected networks, as well as summary results for a number of telecommunications networks.
