Jamal A Ibdah received his MD degree from the University of
Jordan and a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Medical College of
Pennsylvania, followed by postdoctoral research training. He is currently a
Professor of Internal Medicine, Medical Pharmacology, and Physiology, and
Raymond E. and Vaona H. Peck Endowed Research Chair at the University of
Missouri. He was the Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and
Hepatology and Director of the Missouri Digestive Health Center at the
University of Missouri-Columbia from 2005 to 2019. He is a fellow of the American
Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and
the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. His current studies
are focused on understanding the role of mitochondria in non-alcoholic fatty
liver disease utilizing studies in mouse models and human subjects. His work
has led to seminal contributions in the field. His work has beenpublished in more
than 140 peer-reviewed articles, including publications in the New England
Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Gastroenterology,
and Hepatology, in addition to more than 15 book chapters. He is the editor of
the book "Maternal Liver Disease", has served on multiple editorial
boards and NIH study sections, and his work is continuously supported by NIH grants,
VA Merit Review awards, the American Diabetes Foundation, March of Dimes, and
Digestive Health Foundation.
