Prof. Michael Georgiadis is the leader of the Process and Energy Systems Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds an M.Sc. (1995) and PhD (1998) in process systems engineering, both from Imperial College London. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, China,
and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London.
His research activities include
• Production Scheduling and planning
• Integration of Process Design and Control in energy and production systems
• Energy scheduling and energy supply chain optimisation
• Biomedical Systems modelling and optimisation
• Dynamic process modelling, simulation and optimisation.
He has successfully supervised and co-supervised 14 PhD students and he is currently supervising 1 Postdoctoral Research Associate and 5 PhDs. His research has been supported by various funding organisations, including the EU and industrial companies. More specifically he has been involved in over 20 EC-funded collaborative research projects, as Principal Investigator and project coordinator in 9 of them. He has authored and co-authored over 150 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, 20 chapters in books, participated in over 150 international refereed conferences, and his work has been cited more than 5600 times (according to SCOPUS) and over 8600 times (according to Google scholar) by other researchers (as of October 2025).
