Water quality monitoring plays a vital role in the water environment management, while efficient monitoring provides direction and verification of the effectiveness of water management. Traditional water quality monitoring for a variety of water parameters requires the placement of multiple sensors, and some water quality data (e.g., total nitrogen (TN)) requires testing instruments or laboratory analysis to obtain results, which takes longer than the sensors. In this paper, we designed a water quality prediction framework, which uses available water quality variables (e.g., temperature, pH, conductivity, etc.) to predict total nitrogen concentrations in inland water bodies. The framework was also used to predict nearshore seawater salinity and temperature using remote sensing bands. We conducted experiments on real water quality datasets and random forest was chosen to be the core algorithm of the framework by comparing and analyzing the performance of different machine learning algorithms. The results show that among all tested machine learning models, random forest performs the best. The data prediction error rate of the random forest model in predicting the total nitrogen concentration in inland rivers was 4.9%. Moreover, to explore the prediction effect of random forest algorithm when the independent variable is non-water quality data, we took the reflectance of remote sensing bands as the independent variables and successfully inverted the salinity distribution of Shenzhen Bay in the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. According to the experimental results, the random forest-based water quality prediction framework can achieve 92.94% accuracy in predicting the salinity of nearshore waters.

Water quality prediction plays a crucial role in both enterprise management and government environmental management. However, due to the variety in water quality data, inconsistent frequency of data acquisition, inconsistency in data organization, and volatility and sparsity of data, predicting water quality accurately and efficiently has become a key problem. This paper presents a recurrent neural network water quality prediction method based on a sequence-to-sequence (seq2seq) framework. The gate recurrent unit (GRU) model is used as an encoder and decoder, and a factorization machine (FM) is integrated into the model to solve the problem of high sparsity and high dimensional feature interaction in the data, which was not addressed by the water quality prediction models in prior research. Moreover, due to the long period and timespan of water quality data, we add a dual attention mechanism to the seq2seq framework to address memory failures in deep learning. We conducted a series of experiments, and the results show that our proposed method is more accurate than several typical water quality prediction methods.

Deep-Learning-as-a-service (DLaaS) has received increasing attention due to its novelty as a diagram for deploying deep learning techniques. However, DLaaS faces performance and security issues that urgently need to be addressed. Given the limited computation resources and concern of benefits, Quality-of-Service (QoS) metrics should be revised to optimize the performance and reliability of distributed DLaaS systems. New users and services dynamically and continuously join and leave such a system, resulting in cold start issues, and additionally, the increasing demand for robust network connections requires the model to evaluate the uncertainty. To address such performance problems, we propose in this article a deep learning-based model called embedding enhanced probability neural network, in which information is extracted from inside the graph structure and then estimated the mean and variance values for the prediction distribution. The adversarial attack is a severe threat to model security under DLaaS. Due to such, the service recommender system's vulnerability is tackled, and adversarial training with uncertainty-aware loss to protect the model in noisy and adversarial environments is investigated and proposed. Extensive experiments on a large-scale real-world QoS dataset are conducted, and comprehensive analysis verifies the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed model.

Selecting suitable web services based on the quality-of-service (QoS) is essential for developing high-quality service-oriented applications. A critical step in this direction is acquiring accurate, personalised QoS values of web services. As the number of web services is enormous and the QoS data are highly sparse, improving the accuracy of QoS prediction has become a challenging issue recently. In this study, we propose a novel QoS prediction model, called neural fusion matrix factorisation, wherein we combine neural networks and matrix factorisation to perform non-linear collaborative filtering for latent feature vectors of users and services. Moreover, we consider context bias and employ multi-task learning to reduce prediction error and improve the predicted performance. Furthermore, we conducted extensive experiments in a large-scale real-world QoS dataset, and the experimental results verify the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Cloud applications based on service-oriented architectures usually integrate many component services to implement specific application logic. In service-oriented computing environments, many Web services are provided for users to build service-oriented systems. Since the performance of the same Web service varies according to different users’ perspectives, users have to personally select the optimal Web services according to quality-of-service (QoS) data observed by other similar users. However, users with a low reputation provide unreliable data, which has a negative impact on service selection. Moreover, QoS data vary over time due to changes in user reputation; therefore, how to calculate a personalized reputation for each user at runtime remains a substantial problem. To address this critical challenge, this paper proposes an online reputation calculation method, called OPRC, to efficiently provide a personalized reputation for each user. Based on the users’ observed QoS data, OPRC employs MF and online learning techniques to calculate personalized reputations. To validate the approach, large-scale experiments are conducted, which contain two QoS attributes from 142 reliable users and 15 unreliable users. The results show that OPRC has high accuracy and effectiveness compared to other approaches.
