Massimo Figari received his Master's Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Genoa in 1989. He worked as a Researcher at CETENA SpA (1991-1994), as Researcher and then as Associate Professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of Genoa  (1994–2020). In 2020, he was promoted to Full Professor in Marine Engineering. His research topics mainly include: Ship Propulsion Simulation, Ship Propulsion Control, and Decarbonization Technologies.
