Pan-sharpening is a significant task in remote sensing image processing, which merges a high-resolution panchromatic (PAN) image and a low-resolution multispectral (MS) image to create a high-resolution MS image. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning-based MS image pan-sharpening method which combines a Shallow-Deep Convolutional Network (SDCN) and a Spectral Discrimination-based Detail Injection (SDDI) model. SDCN consists of a shallow network and a deep network, which can capture mid-level and high-level spatial features from PAN images. SDDI, inspired by the “Amélioration de la Résolution Spatial par Injection de Structures” (ARSIS) concept, is developed to merge the spatial details extracted by SDCN into MS images with minimal spectral distortion. SDCN and SDDI are collaboratively learned for achieving high spatial resolution MS image and preserving more spectral information. Both the visual assessment and the quantitative assessment results on IKONOS and QuickBird datasets confirmed that the proposed method outperforms several state-of-the-art pan-sharpening methods.

In the process of oil exploitation, the water level of an oil well can be predicted and the position of reservoir can be estimated by measuring the water content of crude oil, with reference for the automatic production of high efficiency in the oil field. In this paper, a visual measuring method for water content of crude oil is proposed. The oil and water in crude oil samples were separated by centrifugation, distillation or electric dehydration, and a water–oil layered mixture was formed according to the unequal densities. Then the volume ratio of water and oil was analyzed by digital image processing, and the water content and oil content was able to be calculated. A new method for measuring water content of crude oil based on IGAVD (image grayscale accumulated value difference) is proposed, which overcomes the uncertainty caused by environmental illumination and improves the measurement accuracy. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, a miniaturization and low-cost system prototype was developed. The experimental results show that the average power consumption is about 165 mW and the measuring error is less than 1.0%. At the same time, the real-time and remote transmission about measurement results can be realized.

In this paper, a novel data-driven algorithm is developed for achieving quantitative characterization of the semantic gaps directly in the visual feature space, where the visual feature space is the common space for concept classifier training and automatic concept detection. By supporting quantitative characterization of the semantic gaps, more effective inference models can automatically be selected for concept classifier training by: (1) identifying the image concepts with small semantic gaps (i.e., the isolated image concepts with high inner-concept visual consistency) and training their one-against-all SVM concept classifiers independently; (2) determining the image concepts with large semantic gaps (i.e., the visually-related image concepts with low inner-concept visual consistency) and training their inter-related SVM concept classifiers jointly; and (3) using more image instances to achieve more reliable training of the concept classifiers for the image concepts with large semantic gaps. Our experimental results on NUS-WIDE and ImageNet image sets have obtained very promising results.
