Biography

Dr. Francis Tieng Yew Fu is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Clinical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science (2016) and Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology (2019) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cancer from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2023. Dr. Francis's research and clinical interests focus on cancer biology, liquid biopsy, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and tumour–immune interactions. His pioneering work investigates single-cell RNA sequencing of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), aiming to decode distinct cellular populations and reconstruct spatially guided tumour–immune niches for functional drug response profiling. His cutting-edge research now heavily focuses on colorectal, head and neck cancers, circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA), fragmentomics, advanced CTC biosensors, and spatially guided tumour-immune microenvironments. An active contributor to the scientific community, Dr. Francis has secured competitive research funding as a principal investigator, including the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) and the 10x Genomics Single-Cell Pilot Grant. He has authored numerous publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and serves as a review editor for numerous high impact international journals.
