The digital economy is integral in driving economic growth, particularly of high-quality standards. Against the backdrop of the “Double Carbon” project, exploring the impact of the digital economy on green agricultural development bears tremendous practical significance. Thus, this study aims to investigate how the digital economy affects agricultural green total factor productivity (GTFP). The entropy-TOPSIS method and SBM-GML index are used to measure core variables quantitatively. In addition, two-way fixed effects panel data models, Tobit, and intermediary effect models are implemented. Three research findings emerge. First, China’s agricultural GTFP level generally experiences an upward trend, and the development of the digital economy has a significant positive effect on increasing agricultural GTFP. Second, the digital economy mainly promotes agricultural technology innovation that boosts agricultural GTFP. Third, Western China experiences a more significant positive effect of the digital economy on agricultural GTFP than Central and Eastern China. Finally, based on the findings, this paper proposes relevant policy recommendations to promote green and sustainable agriculture development.

E-commerce, as a prominent feature of the digital economy era, is highly expected to promote economic growth and sustainable development. Based on the 2020 “China Rural Revitalization Survey” data, this study empirically analyzed the impact and mechanism of digital literacy on the discrepancy between the willingness and behavior of farmers in e-commerce sales. Eleven indicator items were selected, and factor analysis was used to obtain the comprehensive score of digital literacy. Firstly, benchmark regression was performed using the probit model, and then potential endogeneity issues were addressed using the IV probit method and endogenous conversion probit model. The following main conclusions were drawn: Digital literacy has a suppressive effect on the deviation between the willingness and behavior of farmers in e-commerce sales. Farmers with media operation literacy, information acquisition literacy, digital transaction literacy, e-commerce cognitive literacy, and digital social literacy have a 12.3%, 18.3%, 26.2%, 37.5%, and 21.9% reduction in the probability of deviation between the willingness and behavior of farmers in e-commerce sales compared to those without these literacy counterfactual assumptions. Digital literacy helps curb the deviation between farmers’ willingness and behavior in e-commerce sales by facilitating their access to financial resources and agricultural production services. This study demonstrates that enhancing the digital literacy of farmers will promote their willingness to convert e-commerce sales into behavior, help promote sustainable agricultural products more efficiently, and make important contributions to economic growth and sustainable development.

Reducing the use of chemical fertilizers in agricultural production is an inevitable requirement for achieving carbon neutrality and coping with global warming, and it is also an important measure for achieving green and sustainable agricultural development. Furthermore, the development of socialized services of green production provides a new approach to effectively reducing the use of fertilizers. Based on the survey data of 2202 rice growers in Jiangsu Province in 2021, this paper empirically analyzed the effects of socialized services of green production and social network on the reduction in fertilizer application by farmers. The results showed that both the socialized services of green production and social networks could significantly promote the reduction in fertilizer application by farmers. Social networks have a moderating effect between socialized services of green production and reduction in fertilizer application and can enhance the promotion of farmers’ adoption of socialized services of green production to reduce the application of fertilizers. With consideration of the potential endogenous problems of the model and the robustness test by replacing the key explanatory variables and the explained variables, all of the results were stable. Therefore, it is emphasized that the government should cultivate the main body of agricultural socialized services, improve the socialized service system of green production, and promote the green development of agriculture by service scale operation. Equally, it is necessary to strengthen the construction of rural social networks for the exchange of fertilization experience and give full play to the positive role of social networks in the reduction in fertilizer application by farmers.
