Dr. Divyesh is a budding expert on remote sensing of snow. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur in 2020 and he has presently joined the National Centre of Geodesy at the IIT Kanpur, where he is conceptualizing approaches for studies of snow by integrating gravimetric and remote sensing based information. In his doctoral research, he devised novel methods for the qualitative and quantitative characterization of snow using multi-sensor remote sensing data. His methods combine physical and mathematical modeling, information theory, statistical analysis and machine learning. He also has an avid interest in the hydrological and environmental problems related to the high mountain regions. Prior to his Ph.D. Dr. Varade pursued his graduate degree in the International Earth Oriented Space Science and Technology (ESPACE) Program with a specialization in remote sensing at the Technical University of Munich. Dr. Varade holds an undergraduate degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, which has significantly influenced his interests in radar remote sensing. Dr. Varade has published several well-received articles on snow geophysics and characterization. He is serving as a referee for several highly reputed hydrology/water resource and remote sensing journals. He is also a member of several international associations in hydrology/water resources and cryosphere.
