The time-series forecasting is a vital area that motivates continuous investigate areas of intrigued for different applications. A critical step for the time-series forecasting is the right determination of the number of past observations (lags). This paper investigates the forecasting accuracy based on the selection of an appropriate time-lag value by applying a comparative study between three methods. These methods include a statistical approach using auto correlation function, a well-known machine learning technique namely Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) along with a heuristic algorithm to optimize the choosing of time-lag value, and a parallel implementation of LSTM that dynamically choose the best prediction based on the optimal time-lag value. The methods were applied to an experimental data set, which consists of five meteorological parameters and aerosol particle number concentration. The performance metrics were: Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and R-squared. The investigation demonstrated that the proposed LSTM model with heuristic algorithm is the superior method in identifying the best time-lag value.

A significant majority of the population in India makes their living through agriculture. Different illnesses that develop due to changing weather patterns and are caused by pathogenic organisms impact the yields of diverse plant species. The present article analyzed some of the existing techniques in terms of data sources, pre-processing techniques, feature extraction techniques, data augmentation techniques, models utilized for detecting and classifying diseases that affect the plant, how the quality of images was enhanced, how overfitting of the model was reduced, and accuracy. The research papers for this study were selected using various keywords from peer-reviewed publications from various databases published between 2010 and 2022. A total of 182 papers were identified and reviewed for their direct relevance to plant disease detection and classification, of which 75 papers were selected for this review after exclusion based on the title, abstract, conclusion, and full text. Researchers will find this work to be a useful resource in recognizing the potential of various existing techniques through data-driven approaches while identifying plant diseases by enhancing system performance and accuracy.

Feature selection is a well-known prepossessing procedure, and it is considered a challenging problem in many domains, such as data mining, text mining, medicine, biology, public health, image processing, data clustering, and others. This paper proposes a novel feature selection method, called AOAGA, using an improved metaheuristic optimization method that combines the conventional Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm (AOA) with the Genetic Algorithm (GA) operators. The AOA is a recently proposed optimizer; it has been employed to solve several benchmark and engineering problems and has shown a promising performance. The main aim behind the modification of the AOA is to enhance its search strategies. The conventional version suffers from weaknesses, the local search strategy, and the trade-off between the search strategies. Therefore, the operators of the GA can overcome the shortcomings of the conventional AOA. The proposed AOAGA was evaluated with several well-known benchmark datasets, using several standard evaluation criteria, namely accuracy, number of selected features, and fitness function. Finally, the results were compared with the state-of-the-art techniques to prove the performance of the proposed AOAGA method. Moreover, to further assess the performance of the proposed AOAGA method, two real-world problems containing gene datasets were used. The findings of this paper illustrated that the proposed AOAGA method finds new best solutions for several test cases, and it got promising results compared to other comparative methods published in the literature.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is a common reason for mortality among women. Deep learning has recently proven better performance in predicting OC stages and subtypes. However, most of the state-of-the-art deep learning models employ single modality data, which may afford low-level performance due to insufficient representation of important OC characteristics. Furthermore, these deep learning models still lack to the optimization of the model construction, which requires high computational cost to train and deploy them. In this work, a hybrid evolutionary deep learning model, using multi-modal data, is proposed. The established multi-modal fusion framework amalgamates gene modality alongside with histopathological image modality. Based on the different states and forms of each modality, we set up deep feature extraction network, respectively. This includes a predictive antlion-optimized long-short-term-memory model to process gene longitudinal data. Another predictive antlion-optimized convolutional neural network model is included to process histopathology images. The topology of each customized feature network is automatically set by the antlion optimization algorithm to make it realize better performance. After that the output from the two improved networks is fused based upon weighted linear aggregation. The deep fused features are finally used to predict OC stage. A number of assessment indicators was used to compare the proposed model to other nine multi-modal fusion models constructed using distinct evolutionary algorithms. This was conducted using a benchmark for OC and two benchmarks for breast and lung cancers. The results reveal that the proposed model is more precise and accurate in diagnosing OC and the other cancers.
