Next-generation of the cellular network will attempt to overcome the limitations of the current Fifth Generation (5G) networks and equip itself to address the challenges which become obvious in the future. Currently, academia and industry have focused their attention on the Sixth Generation (6G) network, which is anticipated to be the next big game-changer in the telecom industry. The outbreak of COVID'19 has made the whole world to opt for virtual meetings, live video interactions ranging from healthcare, business to education. However, we miss an immersive experience due to the lack of supporting technology. Experts have anticipated that starting from the post-pandemic age, the performance requirements of technology for virtual and real-time communication, the rise of several verticals such as industrial automation, robotics, and autonomous driving will increase tremendously, and will skyrocket during the next decade. In this manuscript, we study the latest perspectives and future megatrends that are most likely to drive 6G. Initially, we describe the instances that lead us to the vision of 6G. Later, we narrate some of the use cases and the KPIs essential to meet their performance requirement. Further, we highlight the key requirements of 6G based on contemporary research such as UN sustainability goals, business model, edge intelligence, digital divide, and the trends in machine learning for 6G.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has enabled the doctors to remotely diagnose the patients, control the medical equipment, and monitor the quarantined patients through their digital devices. Security is a major concern in IoMT because the Internet of Things (IoT) nodes exchange sensitive information between virtual medical facilities over the vulnerable wireless medium. Hence, the virtual facilities must be protected from adversarial threats through secure sessions. This article proposes a lightweight and physically secure mutual authentication and secret key establishment protocol that uses physical unclonable functions (PUFs) to enable the network devices to verify the doctor’s legitimacy (user) and sensor node before establishing a session key. PUF also protects the sensor nodes deployed in an unattended and hostile environment from tampering, cloning, and side-channel attacks. The proposed protocol exhibits all the necessary security properties required to protect the IoMT networks, like authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and anonymity. The formal AVISPA and informal security analysis demonstrate its robustness against attacks like impersonation, replay, a man in the middle, etc. The proposed protocol also consumes fewer resources to operate and is safe from physical attacks, making it more suitable for IoT-enabled medical network applications.

Retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging is a valuable tool for assessing the condition of the back part of the eye. The condition has a great effect on the specificity of diagnosis, the monitoring of many physiological and pathological procedures, and the response and evaluation of therapeutic effectiveness in various fields of clinical practices, including primary eye diseases and systemic diseases such as diabetes. Therefore, precise diagnosis, classification, and automated image analysis models are crucial. In this paper, we propose an enhanced optical coherence tomography (EOCT) model to classify retinal OCT based on modified ResNet (50) and random forest algorithms, which are used in the proposed study’s training strategy to enhance performance. The Adam optimizer is applied during the training process to increase the efficiency of the ResNet (50) model compared with the common pre-trained models, such as spatial separable convolutions and visual geometry group (VGG) (16). The experimentation results show that the sensitivity, specificity, precision, negative predictive value, false discovery rate, false negative rate accuracy, and Matthew’s correlation coefficient are 0.9836, 0.9615, 0.9740, 0.9756, 0.0385, 0.0260, 0.0164, 0.9747, 0.9788, and 0.9474, respectively.

The industry-based internet of things (IIoT) describes how IIoT devices enhance and extend their capabilities for production amenities, security, and efficacy. IIoT establishes an enterprise-to-enterprise setup that means industries have several factories and manufacturing units that are dependent on other sectors for their services and products. In this context, individual industries need to share their information with other external sectors in a shared environment which may not be secure. The capability to examine and inspect such large-scale information and perform analytical protection over the large volumes of personal and organizational information demands authentication and confidentiality so that the total data are not endangered after illegal access by hackers and other unauthorized persons. In parallel, these large volumes of confidential industrial data need to be processed within reasonable time for effective deliverables. Currently, there are many mathematical-based symmetric and asymmetric key cryptographic approaches and identity- and attribute-based public key cryptographic approaches that exist to address the abovementioned concerns and limitations such as computational overheads and taking more time for crucial generation as part of the encipherment and decipherment process for large-scale data privacy and security. In addition, the required key for the encipherment and decipherment process may be generated by a third party which may be compromised and lead to man-in-the-middle attacks, brute force attacks, etc. In parallel, there are some other quantum key distribution approaches available to produce keys for the encipherment and decipherment process without the need for a third party. However, there are still some attacks such as photon number splitting attacks and faked state attacks that may be possible with these existing QKD approaches. The primary motivation of our work is to address and avoid such abovementioned existing problems with better and optimal computational overhead for key generation, encipherment, and the decipherment process compared to the existing conventional models. To overcome the existing problems, we proposed a novel dynamic quantum key distribution (QKD) algorithm for critical public infrastructure, which will secure all cyber–physical systems as part of IIoT. In this paper, we used novel multi-state qubit representation to support enhanced dynamic, chaotic quantum key generation with high efficiency and low computational overhead. Our proposed QKD algorithm can create a chaotic set of qubits that act as a part of session-wise dynamic keys used to encipher the IIoT-based large scales of information for secure communication and distribution of sensitive information.

Traditional firewalls and data encryption techniques can no longer match the demands of current IoT network security due to the rising amount and variety of network threats. In order to manage IoT network risks, intrusion detection solutions have been advised. Even though machine learning (ML) helps the widely used intrusion detection techniques currently in use, these algorithms struggle with low detection rates and the requirement for extensive feature engineering. The deep learning model for IoT network intrusion detection is a method for traffic anomaly detection that is suggested by this study. To extract the sequence properties of data flow through a CNN, it combines an attention mechanism with a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network. This method uses adaptive synthetic sampling (ADASYN) to increase the size of minority-class samples. The proposed models demonstrated acceptable precision and recall for each class when used for binary-class classification, proving their stability and capacity to identify all classes correctly. The MLP classifier’s accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 value were 87%, 89%, 87%, and 89%, respectively, with an AUC score of 0.88. Overall, the proposed models performed well. The attack and all-class models exhibited good AUCs and macro metrics, the same as the proposed MLP classifier, which had an F1 score of 83% and an AUC score of 0.94. Additionally, it trained the MLP classifier and integrated the ADAM optimizer and category cross-entropy loss function for all-class classification. With an AUC value of 94%, it possessed 84% accuracy, 87% precision, 84% recall, and an 83% F1 score. A further indication of the hybrid model’s ability to combine the benefits of both models to improve overall performance was that it regularly outperformed the MLP model. This model’s accuracy and F1 score are better than those of earlier comparable algorithms, according to experimental results using the publicly accessible benchmark dataset for network intrusion detection (NSL–KDD).

Modern networks are at risk from a variety of threats as a result of the enormous growth in internet-based traffic. By consuming time and resources, intrusive traffic hampers the efficient operation of network infrastructure. An effective strategy for preventing, detecting, and mitigating intrusion incidents will increase productivity. A crucial element of secure network traffic is Intrusion Detection System (IDS). An IDS system may be host-based or network-based to monitor intrusive network activity. Finding unusual internet traffic has become a severe security risk for intelligent devices. These systems are negatively impacted by several attacks, which are slowing computation. In addition, networked communication anomalies and breaches must be detected using Machine Learning (ML). This paper uses the NSL-KDD data set to propose a novel IDS based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). As a result, the ML model generalizes sufficiently to perform well on untried data. The NSL-KDD dataset shall be utilized for both training and testing. In this paper, we present a custom ANN model architecture using the Keras open-source software package. The specific arrangement of nodes and layers, along with the activation functions, enhances the model's ability to capture intricate patterns in network data. The performance of the ANN is carefully tested and evaluated, resulting in the identification of a maximum detection accuracy of 97.5%. We thoroughly compared our suggested model to industry-recognized benchmark methods, such as decision classifier combinations and ML classifiers like k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Deep Learning (DL), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Deep Neural Network (DNN), and ANN. It is encouraging to see that our model consistently outperformed each of these tried-and-true techniques in all evaluations. This result underlines the effectiveness of the suggested methodology by demonstrating the ANN's capacity to accurately assess the effectiveness of the developed strategy in identifying and categorizing instances of network intrusion.
