Dr. Shu-Nong Bai is a Professor Emeritus at the School of Life Sciences, Peking University. He completed his PhD studies in Plant Physiology at the Institute of Botany, CAS. After returning to China from his postdoc training at Renee Sung’s laboratory, UC Berkeley, he has led projects on regulatory mechanisms of early development of stamen, unisexual flower development, and cellular patterning of Arabidopsis root epidermis. He has published more than 100 papers in various journals, proposing some new concepts on plant developmental unit (PDU), plant developmental program (PDP), and sexual reproduction cycle (SRC). He proposed a theory regarding plant development as “Plant Morphogenesis 123 (PM123)”. Under such a conceptual framework, he proposes that unisexual flower development is not an issue of sex differentiation, but an issue of outcross promotion.
