Sergio Makrakis is a professor at the State University of Western Paraná. He graduated in Fisheries Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará (UFCE, 1986) and has a master's degree in Agricultural Engineering from the State University of West Paraná (2002) and a Ph.D. in Ecology of Continental Aquatic Environments from the State University of Maringá and a sandwich doctorate at the Mississippi State University (2007). He was a postdoctoral fellow at S.O. Conte Anadromous Fish Research Laboratory, USGS (US Geological Survey - 2009) and at the University of Valladolid, Spain (2013). Currently, he is the Leader of the Research Group on Technology in Ecohydraulics and Conservation of Water and Fishing Resources - GETECH and Coordinator of the Laboratory of Ecohydraulics and Hydrobiology - LATECH (Unioeste) Productivity Scholarship in Technological Development and Innovative Extension. He is interested in assessing impacts on ichthyofauna, monitoring fish passages, and maintaining partnerships with private companies and research institutions from several countries (Spain, France, and Laos). He sits on the Expert Committee of Initiatives for the Future of Great Rivers (IFGR), as an invited member of the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR), France.
