Dr. Vijayan is currently working as a postdoctoral scholar at the Material Science and Engineering Department and Center for Nanoscale Materials and Biointegration , University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his BS and MS in Chemistry from University of Kerala, India. He received his Ph.D in Polymeric Biomaterials from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institiute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), an institute of national importance under Government of India in 2017. He is a recipient of the Prestigious National Postdoctoral Fellowship Award from Govt of India in 2017. His different research interests include the following, 1. Synthesis of fluorescent polymeric hydrogels/nanogels for different biomedical applications such as theranostic and tissue engineering applications, 2. Synthesis of unsaturated polyesters for bone tissue engineering applications, 3. Synthesis of nanoparticles such as polymeric micelles, silica, gold and lanthanide doped Hydroxy Apatite nanoparticles for drug delivery applications. His current research work in UAB deals with the development of non-thermal plasma surface modification/polymerization of polymeric biomaterials and scaffolds. He has published 20 research papers in international journals, which includes prestigious journals such as Biomaterials, Small, Journal of Materials Chemistry B . He also serves as peer reviewer for different international journals such as Journal of Materials, ACS OMEGA, Current Opinion in Biomedical Engineering.
