Dr Ian Kerr is an associate professor in biochemistry at the University of Nottingham. Over a 30 year research career, he has worked on the biochemistry and biophysics of ion channels and membrane transporters. Throughout his career, the emphasis has been on using sequence and structural data to inform experiments and incorporate experimental data back into models of protein function. The main focus of his current work is understanding structure and function in multidrug-binding ATP-binding cassette transporters. Ian is also the course lead for biochemistry degrees at the University of Nottingham.
