Prof. Wilfried Posch is Head of the Department of Hygiene, Microbiology and Virology at the Medical University of Innsbruck and leads a research group specializing in host–virus interactions and immune regulation. His current research focuses on immunocompetent 3D human models to study antiviral responses, particularly the role of complement-opsonized antigens in dendritic cell (DC) activation and T cell priming during SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1 infections. His group has established advanced airway models and developed sensitive SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell ELISpot assays for basic and translation research purposes. He has secured over EUR 1.5 million in competitive research funding and led eight major projects supported by the Austrian Science Fund. Prof. Posch’s earlier work at University College London and INSERM in Paris focused on HIV-infected DCs using proteomic and transcriptomic approaches. His achievements include multiple publication awards, the Ernst Brandl Prize, and a national Young Investigator Award.
