The study of the affective dimension of transversal competences is essential for the development of responsible behaviors and maintaining attitudes committed to sustainable development. The importance attributed to each of these factors can predict behavior implementation and awareness of values for sustainable development that reflect the acquisition and internalization of sustainability-related generic competences. This study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the affective dimension of the Generic Macro-Competence Assessment (AGMA) scale by applying Rasch measurement model to a sample of Spanish university students, comprising 387 Spanish university students (74.9% women; mean age = 21.24; WD = 3.54; range: 17–34). Results demonstrated a lack of adjustment to the Rasch model due to item 1, and all items showed disordered response category thresholds. The remaining nine-item scale achieved all requirements of the model (χ2 = 61.46; p = 0.052), including unidimensionality. Thus, the scale’s psychometric properties indicate an easy-to-apply instrument for screening these factors for coping strategies in undergraduate and graduate Spanish students. The results can help in justifying the design of interdisciplinary intervention programs, in which affective factors are essential for sustainable development education.

The COVID-19 global health emergency has greatly impacted the educational field. Faced with unprecedented stress situations, professors, students, and families have employed various coping and resilience strategies throughout the confinement period. High and persistent stress levels are associated with other pathologies; hence, their detection and prevention are needed. Consequently, this study aimed to design a predictive model of stress in the educational field based on artificial intelligence that included certain sociodemographic variables, coping strategies, and resilience capacity, and to study the relationship between them. The non-probabilistic snowball sampling method was used, involving 337 people (73% women) from the university education community in south-eastern Spain. The Perceived Stress Scale, Stress Management Questionnaire, and Brief Resilience Scale were administered. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (version 24) was used to design the architecture of artificial neural networks. The results found that stress levels could be predicted by the synaptic weights of coping strategies and timing of the epidemic (before and after the implementation of isolation measures), with a predictive capacity of over 80% found in the neural network model. Additionally, direct and significant associations were identified between the use of certain coping strategies, stress levels, and resilience. The conclusions of this research are essential for effective stress detection, and therefore, early intervention in the field of educational psychology, by discussing the influence of resilience or lack thereof on the prediction of stress levels. Identifying the variables that maintain a greater predictive power in stress levels is an effective strategy to design more adjusted prevention programs and to anticipate the needs of the community.

The present study aims analyze the risk factors that lead to high levels of burnout among nurses and physicians and the protective factors that prevent them. Thus, it is also intended to explore the possible correlation between physical and verbal violence produced at work and the symptoms derived from burnout. Methods: The search was carried out on the Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science databases between 2000 and 2019 (on which date the bibliographic search ends). Descriptive studies estimating the prevalence of workplace violence and risk and protective factors and burnout were included. An adapted version of the Downs and Black quality checklist was used for article selection. 89.6 percent of the studies analysed were in the health sector. There is a significant correlation between burnout symptoms and physical violence at work. On the one hand, the risk factors that moderate this correlation were of structural/organisational type (social support, quality of the working environment, authoritarian leadership, little autonomy or long working days, etc.) and personal type (age, gender, nationality or academic degree, etc.). On the other hand, protective factors were the quality of the working environment, mutual support networks or coping strategies. The results were analysed in-depth and intervention strategies were proposed.

Students with psychosis in school within the ordinary education system are a reality in the classroom. To study their correct adaptation at school, it is necessary to consider numerous factors such as the personal characteristics of the student, environmental variables, educational measures put in place as well as emotional and cognitive aspects. The aim of this research was to monitor the teaching–learning process of a student diagnosed with psychosis and enrolled in a public school at the secondary level in the ordinary modality with support during an academic year, with the usual resources provided by a guidance department to assess the impact of the educational measures and plans on his emotional and academic fields. This was a single case study in which both qualitative and quantitative information was collected (N = 1). The participant was a student with special needs at the secondary level. An analysis of the results of psychometric tests, plan for diversity, observational analysis, academic file, scholastic history, and multiple interviews were carried out. The findings show how the educational curriculum can be adapted to improve the competences of a student with psychosis by encouraging an increase in social abilities and potential cognitive abilities through the counseling department. The conclusions of this research can provide a guideline for comparison of different educational systems, paying greater attention to the development of emotional aspects, and opting for inclusive measures. In this line, this study shows that students with psychosis can share classrooms and studies with their peers, thus fulfilling the principle of educational inclusion.

Burnout is a reality in the teaching profession. Specifically, teaching staff usually have higher burnout rates. The present study aims to analyze the different burnout profiles and to verify if there were differences between burnout profiles in depressive symptomatology and in the self-esteem of the teachers at school. The total number of participants was 210 teachers from 30 to 65 years. The first scale was the Maslach burnout inventory, the second scale was the Self-Rating depression scale and the third scale was the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale . The latent class analysis identified three burnout profiles: the first group with a high level of emotional exhaustion, low personal accomplishment and depersonalization (high burnout); the second group with low emotional exhaustion, low depersonalization and high personal accomplishment (low burnout) and the third group with low depersonalization, low emotional exhaustion and low personal accomplishment (moderate burnout). The results revealed that there were differences in depressive symptomatology (group 1 obtained higher scores than group 2 and group 3) and self-esteem (group 2 obtained higher scores than group 1). The psychological balance and health of teachers depend on preventing the factors that have been associated with this syndrome.

The aggressor sets in motion dysfunctional and violent behaviors with others in the dynamic of bullying. These behaviors can be understood as misfit coping strategies in response to environmental demands perceived as stressful, putting at risk the quality of education. The aim of this study was to develop a predictive model based on artificial neural networks (ANN) to forecast a violent coping strategy based on perceived stress, resilience, other coping strategies and various socio-demographic variables. For this purpose, the Stress Coping Questionnaire (SCQ), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS) were administered to 283 participants from the educational field (71.5% women). The design was cross-sectional. An inferential analysis (multilayer perception ANN) was performed with SPSS version 24. The results showed a predictive model that took into consideration the subject’s stress levels, personal assessment and strategies such as negative self-targeting or avoidance to predict open emotional expression (a coping strategy defined by violent behaviors) in approximately four out of five cases. The conclusions emphasis the need for considering problem solving, stress management and coping skills to prevent school violence and improve the social environment through sustainable psychological measures.

Bullying and cyberbullying are important global issues with negative consequences for physical and mental health in education. The objective of this study was to analyze to what extent some dimensions of emotional intelligence predict certain manifestations of bullying and cyberbullying in adolescents. The total number of subjects recruited in compulsory secondary education schools, was 309 (53.1% female). Their ages ranged from 12 to 16 (M = 14.17, SD = 1.4). The used instruments were the school violence questionnaire and the emotional coefficient inventory; the study design was cross-sectional. Results showed that the score increases on some scales (adaptability, stress management, and interpersonal) involved a greater risk of increasing the likelihood of social perception the different manifestations of school violence. However, in the general mood, the increase in this variable score implied lower perceiving in likelihood of violent behavior. It is important to take into account preventive actions aimed at improving school life and, above all, to alleviate difficulties in managing stress, adaptability, and interpersonal relationships.

The aim of this research has been to analyze cognitive and affective empathy among professional workers in an institutionalized center. Empathy is the capacity of taking into account others points of with feelings and emotions as Theory of Mind claims. Depersonalization emerges in caregivers in certain circumstances. This acts as a mechanism of defense and is typical in the professional with high levels of burnout. For this reason, it proceeded to examine this syndrome and its relationship with empathy among 20 professional caregivers. The instruments used were the Cognitive and Affective Empathy Scale (consisted of scales understanding of perspectives, emotional understanding, empathic stress and sympathetic joy), Maslach Burnout Inventory (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and professional accomplishment) and an ad hoc survey for the workforce for the collection of sociodemographic and workplace information. The results show a significant positive correlation, with high effect size, between age and empathic stress and between this one and emotional exhaustion. Positive significance between depersonalization and sympathetic joy has also been found. The conclusions of this research lead a reflection on the configuration and structure of this defense mechanism and its relationship with empathy in the workplace.

AbstractThe aim of this cross-sectional study with an ex post facto design was to study the way secondary school teachers defend themselves from stress by analyzing the relationship between burnout and coping strategies in a sample of 221 teachers from public and private/state-subsidized schools in the municipality of Murcia. To do this, we applied a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and the Stress Coping Questionnaire (CAE in Spanish). The results of the descriptive and inferential analysis show that negative self-targeting strategies (NST) and open emotional expression (OEE) are associated more with the presence of the syndrome, in contrast to the focus on solving the problem (FSP) and positive reappraisal (PR) that are associated with greater personal fulfillment at work. In conclusion, identifying the strategies that are associated with burnout or lack of it will allow the design of more adjusted prevention programs

Starting from previous studies in professional caregivers of people with dementia and other diseases in institutionalized centers of different regions, the aim of this study was to compare burnout levels that workers present depending on the center, to create a caregiver profile with high professional accomplishment and to describe the quality of life that residents perceive Murcia and Barcelona. The instruments used were the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the Professional Caregiver Survey developed ad hoc and the Brief Questionnaire of Quality of Life (CUBRECAVI in Spanish) on residents. The results show, on the one hand, that levels of professional accomplishment may be paradoxically higher in the case of catastrophe and, on the other hand, the 98.2% of users are satisfied with the residence in which is located and 81.8% with the manner in which occupy the time. The conclusions that are extrapolated from the study shed light on the current situation of workers and residents and the influence that an earthquake can have on them.

Following a previous study on professional caregivers of people with dementia and other diseases in residential, was decided to compare two residential centers of two different regions, Murcia and Barcelona. Based on the results of which 13.3% of the global sample had a high emotional exhaustion, 54.8% a high level of depersonalization and 10% a reduced sense of personal accomplishment, we proceed to an analysis of current levels in the three dimensions to study their evolution. Similarly, we assess whether in the town of Lorca (Murcia), these levels have been affected by the earthquake on May 11, 2011, for which it has conducted an evaluation of possible symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We proceeded to the administration of the same tests of the latest research (Scale Maslach Burnout Inventory -MBI- and an ad hoc survey conducted for professional caregivers) and the Scale SA-45 which is the short form from the original SCL-90, and the Severity of Symptoms Scale of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. The results show differences between the two populations in different variables and they shed light on the consequences and impact of a traumatic event in the sample.
