Imaging system range defines the maximal distance at which a selected object can be seen and perceived following surveillance task perception criteria. Thermal imagers play a key role in long-range surveillance systems due to the ability to form images during the day or night and in adverse weather conditions. The thermal imager range depends on imager design parameters, scene and transmission path properties. Imager range prediction is supported by theoretical models that provide the ability to check range performance, compare range performances for different systems, extend range prediction in field conditions, and support laboratory measurements related to range. A condensed review of the theoretical model’s genesis and capabilities is presented. We applied model-based performance calculation for several thermal imagers used in our long-range surveillance systems and compared the results with laboratory performance measurement results with the intention of providing the range prediction in selected field conditions. The key objective of the paper is to provide users with reliable data regarding expectations during a field mission.
SWIR imaging bears considerable advantages over visible-light (color) and thermal images in certain challenging propagation conditions. Thus, the SWIR imaging channel is frequently used in multi-spectral imaging systems (MSIS) for long-range surveillance in combination with color and thermal imaging to improve the probability of correct operation in various day, night and climate conditions. Integration of deep-learning (DL)-based real-time object detection in MSIS enables an increase in efficient utilization for complex long-range surveillance solutions such as border or critical assets control. Unfortunately, a lack of datasets for DL-based object detection models training for the SWIR channel limits their performance. To overcome this, by using the MSIS setting we propose a new cross-spectral automatic data annotation methodology for SWIR channel training dataset creation, in which the visible-light channel provides a source for detecting object types and bounding boxes which are then transformed to the SWIR channel. A mathematical image transformation that overcomes differences between the SWIR and color channel and their image distortion effects for various magnifications are explained in detail. With the proposed cross-spectral methodology, the goal of the paper is to improve object detection in SWIR images captured in challenging outdoor scenes. Experimental tests for two object types (cars and persons) using a state-of-the-art YOLOX model demonstrate that retraining with the proposed automatic cross-spectrally created SWIR image dataset significantly improves average detection precision. We achieved excellent improvements in detection performance in various variants of the YOLOX model (nano, tiny and x).
Terrestrial radio signals at frequencies above 70 GHz are vulnerable to atmospheric absorption by rain. In order to prevent traffic loss in radio network, caused by finite duration of rerouting algorithm convergence, protection method based on pre-calculated backup routes is proposed. Using two-dimensional rain cell model, a performance analysis is held out for different rain parameters in network with adaptive modulation/capacity links. It is shown that under influence of moderate rain intensity, a network protected by proposed method can have performance very close to that of a rerouted network.
Multi-sensor imaging systems have a very important role and wide applications in surveillance and security systems. In many applications, it is necessary to use an optical protective window as an optical interface connecting the imaging sensor and object of interest’s space; meanwhile an imaging sensor is mounted in a protective enclosure, providing separation from environmental conditions. Optical windows are often used in various optical and electro-optical systems, fulfilling different sometimes very unusual tasks. There are lots of examples in the literature that define optical window design for targeted applications. Through analysis of the various effects that follow optical window application in connection with imaging systems, we have suggested a simplified methodology and practical recommendation for how to define optical protective window specifications in multi-sensor imaging systems, using a system engineering approach. In addition, we have provided initial set of data and simplified calculation tools that can be used in initial analysis to provide proper window material selection and definition of the specifications of optical protective windows in multi-sensor systems. It is shown that although the optical window design seems as a simple task, it requires serious multidisciplinary approach.
This paper presents an autonomous perfectly secure low-bit-rate voice communication system (APS-VCS) based on the mixed-excitation linear prediction voice coder (MELPe), Vernam cipher, and sequential key distillation (SKD) protocol by public discussion. An authenticated public channel can be selected in a wide range, from internet connections to specially leased radio channels. We found the source of common randomness between the locally synthesized speech signal at the transmitter and the reconstructed speech signal at the receiver side. To avoid information leakage about open input speech, the SKD protocol is not executed on the actual transmitted speech signal but on artificially synthesized speech obtained by random selection of the linear spectral pairs (LSP) parameters of the speech production model. Experimental verification of the proposed system was performed on the Vlatacom Personal Crypto Platform for Voice encryption (vPCP-V). Empirical measurements show that with an adequate selection of system parameters for voice transmission of 1.2 kb/s, a secret key rate (KR) of up to 8.8 kb/s can be achieved, with a negligible leakage rate (LR) and bit error rate (BER) of order for various communications channels, including GSM 3G and GSM VoLTE networks. At the same time, by ensuring perfect secrecy within symmetric encryption systems, it further highlights the importance of the symmetry principle in the field of information-theoretic security. To our knowledge, this is the first autonomous, perfectly secret system for low-bit-rate voice communication that does not require explicit prior generation and distribution of secret keys.
Metode: Laboratorijska merenja i teorijska matematička izračunavanja.
