Periodic impacts are considered as the important defect signatures of wind turbine bearing. However, it is difficult to separate the weak periodic impacts from collected signal under serious interference environment. Facing with this issue, the recently developed signal processing technique named adaptive chirp mode decomposition (ACMD) is firstly introduced into the fault diagnosis field of wind turbine bearing. And the influences of instantaneous frequency and weighting coefficient parameters of ACMD are researched through simulated fault signal. In additional, the L-kurtosis fluctuation spectrum (LFS) guided instantaneous frequency selection strategy and the cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) guided weighting coefficient determination strategy are respectively put forward to automatically confirm the optimal influencing parameters without requiring priori knowledge. Combined with these two specific strategies, an innovation optimized adaptive chirp mode decomposition (OACMD) method is further proposed for defect identification of wind turbine bearing. The experimental signals and the engineering signal are in turn adopted to demonstrate the reliability of this proposed diagnostic method. The obtained analysis results show that the informative target mode with obvious periodic impact signatures can be effectively extracted, and the key defect characteristic frequencies are able to be successfully identified. Furthermore, the conventional spectral kurtosis method, the minimum entropy deconvolution method and the singular spectrum decomposition method are respectively employed for performance comparison. And it is validated that the proposed OACMD method has outstanding advantage on weak defect detection of wind turbine bearing.
The fault feature of wind turbine bearing is usually very weak in the early injury stage, in order to accurately identify the defect location, an original approach based on optimized cyclostationary blind deconvolution (OCYCBD) and singular value decomposition denoising (SVDD) is put forward to extract and enhance the fault feature effectively. In this diagnosis method, the fast spectral coherence is fused with the equal step size search strategy for the cyclic frequency parameter and the filter length parameter optimization, and a new frequency weighted energy entropy (FWEE) indicator which combining the advantages of the frequency weighted energy operator (FWEO) and the Shannon entropy, is developed for deconvolution signal evaluation during parameter optimization process. In addition, a novel singular value order determination approach based on fitting error minimum principle is utilized by SVDD to enhance the fault feature. During the process of defect identification, OCYCBD with the optimal parameters is firstly used to recover the informative source from the collected vibration signal. FWEO is further utilized to highlight the potential impulsive characteristics, and the instantaneous energy signal of deconvolution result can be acquired. The whole interferences contained in the instantaneous energy signal can’t be removed due to the weak fault signature and the severe background noise. Then, SVDD is applied to purify the instantaneous energy signal of deconvolution signal, by which the residual interference component is eliminated and the fault feature is strengthened immensely. Finally, frequency domain analysis is performed on the denoised instantaneous energy signal, and the defect location identification of wind turbine bearing can be achieved through analyzing the obvious spectral lines in the obtained enhanced energy spectrum. The collected signals from the experimental platform and the engineering field are both utilized to verify the feasibility of proposed method, and its superiority is further demonstrated through comparing with several well known diagnosis methods. The results indicate this novel method has distinct advantage on bearing weak feature extraction and enhancement.
Nonlinear time series denoising is the prerequisite for extracting effective information from observation sequence. An effective chaotic signal denoising method not only has a good signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enhancement performance, but also can remain as a good unpredictable denoised signal. However, the inherent characteristics of chaos, such as extreme sensitivity to initial values and broadband spectrum, pose challenges for noise reduction of polluted chaotic signals. To address these issues, an adaptive smoothing multiscale morphological filtering (ASMMF) is proposed to reconstruct chaotic signals. In the process of noise reduction for contaminated chaotic signals, firstly, a multiscale morphological filter is constructed adaptively according to the multiscale permutation entropy (MPE) of morphological filter residuals, and the contaminated signals are filtered. Secondly, the weight coefficients of scale structural element are calculated by the residual sum of squares operation, and the chaotic signals are reconstructed. Finally, the resampled filter signals are smoothed by cubic B-spline interpolation operation. In the experiment, the Lorenz signal with white Gaussian noise, the measured sunspot, and the chaotic vibration signal are reconstructed by four comparison methods. The test results show that the proposed ASMMF method has obvious advantages in noise suppression and topological trajectory restoration.
Various failure mechanisms of rolling bearing under different working conditions involve important nonlinear dynamic characteristics. And the incipient fault detection of the complex and nonstationary rolling bearing signal is difficult, especially with multiple interference source components. To address this issue, a novel fault feature extraction method which integrates chaos theory and mathematical morphology is proposed. Firstly, the smooth multi-scale morphological filtering (SMMF) is adopted to reduce the noise in chaotic rolling bearing signals without destroying its original nonlinear dynamic structure. In addition, a method of generalized estimation of morphological fractal dimension called composite multi-scale morphological fractal dimension (CMMFD) is proposed, and applied to quantify the complexity of those orbits reconstructed from rolling bearing signals. The CMMFD improves the identification ability of the original morphological fractal dimension (MFD). Then, CMMFD features are extracted from SMMF denoised signal. Different conditions of rolling bearing signals are distinguished in this feature space. Finally, the CMMFD features are input into a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) training and diagnosis to distinguish different faults of rolling bearing signals. The new diagnosis approach based on SMMF and CMMFD is compared with some existing methods in analysis of simulated signals and experimental rolling bearing signals. Accuracy and efficiency of different approaches are contrasted by analyzing the results of simulation and experiments. Comparative results demonstrate that the proposed diagnosis approach based on SMMF and CMMFD can reliably recognize different fault types at the early stage and have more accurate results.
