The deep convective boundary layer (CBL) in the Taklimakan Desert plays an important role in the climate system in East Asia. Based on the observation experiment and large‐eddy simulation, turbulent mechanisms for its formation were revealed in this study. This explained why the daily maximum CBL depth was independent of surface heating. In the late‐morning, there was a weak temperature inversion and a near‐neutral residual layer (RL) above the CBL. With the development of the CBL, stronger convection could penetrate the RL and even overshoot the top of the RL. The distinctive boundary‐layer process entrained free‐tropospheric air to warm the RL and then promoted the entrainment of the warmed air in the RL into the CBL. This extra energy supply effectively contributed to the growth of the CBL. With further positive feedback between the CBL and RL depths, a deeper CBL would form in consecutive fair‐weather conditions.

Ecosystem imbalance is often associated with a feedback mechanism, which a self‐amplifying or ‐dampening process expressed by a pathway of causal processes that come back to its starting point, establishing a cycle. Warming, which is increasing worldwide due to human activities, influences the structure and functioning of ecosystems, has threatened sustainable regional and global development, especially over the mountain regions. This is because, the climatic condition rapidly changes along elevation gradients, which may amplify or mitigate the effects of climate on ecosystems. Based on it, a reference system and standardized techniques are extremely important to understand the ecosystem imbalance. Because of terrestrial oxygen production (TOP), which is the terrestrial biosphere continually absorbs CO2 and releases O2 resulting through vegetation photosynthesis, is closely related to the exchange of energy, carbon and other ecosystem factors between the atmosphere and the land. Therefore, whether TOP significantly increases indicate that accelerate in ecosystem imbalance over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) is largely unknown. To do so, integrated with characteristics and drivers of TOP, we investigated how TOP changes respond to ecosystem imbalance over the TP. These changes are influenced by related to climatic conditions, plant productivity, soil fertility, and microbial stability, which can establish a positive feedback loop that standardized direct effect is 0.99, 0.73, 0.75, and 0.75. Our findings suggest that ecosystem imbalance will accelerate with rapid TOP increase over the TP by ∼2,100. This study confirms the importance of the ecosystem imbalance under global warming in the future.

Based on observations from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) together with an environmental particulate matter analyzer (Grimm-180) and Global Positioning System (GPS) sounding balloons, the vertical structure of dust with different particle sizes was explored over the Taklimakan Desert (TD) during an intensive observation from 1 July 2021 to 31 July 2021. The power functions were fitted between the particle counts and particle sizes, indicating negative correlations with an R2 higher than 0.99 under different dust pollution conditions in Tazhong (TZ). The dust concentrations show a sharp vertical increase over the TD during dust pollution; however, more particles with larger sizes are entrained into the air in TZ compared with Minfeng (MF). The total solar radiation during dust pollution days is significantly weakened, accompanied by major modifications in the temperature stratification, which were characterized by low-level cooling (with −2.71 K mean intensity) and high-level heating (with +0.70 K mean intensity). On clear days, the average convective boundary layer (CBL) heights at the TZ and MF are approximately 3.94 and 2.84 km, respectively, and the average stable boundary layer (SBL) height at the TZ and MF are approximately 0.19 and 0.14 km, respectively. With the increasing dust pollution level, the CBL height decreases rapidly while the SBL height shows the opposite trend. The unique ultra-high atmospheric boundary layer structure in daytime provides beneficial conditions for the suspension and vertical transportation of dust over TD. Moreover, a negative correlation between the CBL height and near-surface PM10/PM2.5/PM1.0 concentration in TD is revealed by power function fittings.

ABSTRACT The recent decade has witnessed thriving discourses of feminism on social media in mainland China. Feminist podcasting rose in popularity in 2019. By analyzing 35 podcasts, I sketch a landscape of Chinese feminist podcasting in terms of discussion subjects, content, and business mode. Through close textual analysis of Surplus Value (剩余价值) and Bie Renxing (别任性), supplemented by interviews with three feminist podcasters, I will argue that feminist podcasting combines academic depth and social immediacy, complementing feminist discourse in both academia and popular culture. Its subscription technology offers a bargaining chip to feminist podcasters, perhaps more than any other social media, to negotiate with censoring power. The pleasure of evading and teasing the authorities is not only felt by podcasters but also shared among listeners, leading to a consolidation of the host-audience alliance.
