Regina Hofmann-Lehmann is a professor of Laboratory Medicine and Head of the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and Services at the University of Zurich. She had a research appointment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, was an instructor at the Harvard Medical School and received a professorship from the Swiss National Science Foundation. She heads the Center for Clinical Studies and the diagnostic laboratory at the University Animal Hospital.
She has presided over the Swiss Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostics and is a member of the European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases. Her most significant scientific contributions in clinical infectiology include in-depth studies on feline leukamia virus infection pathogenesis and prevention, with infection transmission by proviral DNA, exploration of protection from primate lentivirus infection by passive immunization, molecular characterization of feline caliciviruses inducing respiratory and virulent-systemic disease and identification of a novel feline haemoplasma species. Her research demonstrates a strong commitment also for wildlife conservation. With her team, she has been investigating SARS-CoV-2 infections with a special focus on One-Health aspects and performing laboratory exploration of successful treatment of feline infectious peritonitis. She is the author of many book chapters, guidelines and >300 scientific articles. Her work involves collaborations with researchers and clinicians worldwide.
