Hydrogel-based conductive materials for smart wearable devices have attracted increasing attention due to their excellent flexibility, versatility, and outstanding biocompatibility. This review presents the recent advances in multifunctional conductive hydrogels for electronic devices. First, conductive hydrogels with different components are discussed, including pure single network hydrogels based on conductive polymers, single network hydrogels with additional conductive additives (i.e., nanoparticles, nanowires, and nanosheets), double network hydrogels based on conductive polymers, and double network hydrogels with additional conductive additives. Second, conductive hydrogels with a variety of functionalities, including self-healing, super toughness, self-growing, adhesive, anti-swelling, antibacterial, structural color, hydrophobic, anti-freezing, shape memory and external stimulus responsiveness are introduced in detail. Third, the applications of hydrogels in flexible devices are illustrated (i.e., strain sensors, supercapacitors, touch panels, triboelectric nanogenerator, bioelectronic devices, and robot). Next, the current challenges facing hydrogels are summarized. Finally, an imaginative but reasonable outlook is given, which aims to drive further development in the future.

It is highly challenging to construct a durable superhydrophobic coating for practical applications since the coating is easily destroyed by mechano-chemical attack. To address this issue, a “PDMS-in-water” emulsion approach is for the first time adopted to design a mechanochemically robust superhydrophobic cotton fabric with intelligent self-healing nature, without using any fluorine-containing components. With this approach, PDMS molecules firstly penetrate into the cotton fiber, and then graft onto the surface of the cotton fabric with a strong binding force, creating hierarchical rough structures and lowering the surface energy simultaneously. Benefitting from this design, the PDMS@cotton fabric exhibits high superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle over 155°, surpassing all the PDMS-in-organic solvent based approaches. Impressively, the surface repairs its superhydrophobicity throughout the whole lifetime though damaged by machine washing or abrasion (>100 cycles), due to the self-diffusion process of PDMS molecules from the inner part to the outer surface of the cotton fibers to minimize surface free energy. Besides, the superhydrophobic coatings display superior chemical stability in strongly acidic and alkaline solution, and maintain similar textile physical properties of the cotton fabric, such as elongation at break, tensile strength, etc. Our environment-friendly “PDMS-in-water” approach can be easily integrated into industrial textile finishing treatment and is promising to apply to various substrates with robust superhydrophobic surfaces.

Over the past decades, there has been a growing interest in rechargeable aqueous Zn‐ion batteries (AZIBs) as a viable substitute for lithium‐ion batteries. This is primarily due to their low cost, lower redox potential, and high safety. Nevertheless, the progress of Zn metal anodes has been impeded by various challenges, including the growth of dendrites, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution reaction during repeated cycles that result in low Coulombic efficiency and a short lifetime. Therefore, we represent recent advances in Zn metal anode protection for constructing high‐performance AZIBs. Besides, we show in‐depth analyses and supposed hypotheses on the working mechanism of these issues associated with mildly acidic aqueous electrolytes. Meanwhile, design principles and feasible strategies are proposed to suppress dendrites' formation of Zn batteries, including electrode design, electrolyte modification, and interface regulation, which are suitable for restraining corrosion and hydrogen evolution reaction. Finally, the current challenges and future trends are raised to pave the way for the commercialization of AZIBs. These design principles and potential strategies are applicable in other metal‐ion batteries, such as Li and K metal batteries.

Bioinspired superhydrophobic surfaces have attracted great interest due to their special functions and wide applications. However, it is still a big challenge to construct a durable superhydrophobic coating for large-scale applications due to its easy destruction by the mechanochemical attack. In this mini-review, we present the state-of-the-art developments in the rational design of mechanochemical durable and self-healing superhydrophobic surfaces. First, the mechanically durable superhydrophobic surfaces are constructed to endure mechanical damage by adjusting the surface morphology and increasing the binding force between the substrates and the modified materials. Second, chemical damages also have been taken into consideration to develop chemically robust superhydrophobic surfaces, such as chemical etching, ultraviolet (UV)-light irradiation, and bioerosion, etc. Third, endowing superhydrophobic coatings with self-healing function can effectively improve the durability and prolong the lifespan of the coatings by releasing low-surface-energy agents or regenerating topographic structures. Finally, the challenges and future perspectives in developing super durable bioinspired superhydrophobic surfaces by structure design and chemistry control are discussed. The innovative points provided in this mini-review will provide deep fundamental insight for prolonging the lifetime of the superhydrophobic surfaces and enable their practical applications in the near future.
